I am wearing a huge Backstreet Boys t-shirt (XXL) which is very comfortable,
with a pair of Abercrombie and Finch wide leg jeans that has legs thicker
than the pillars at Grand Central Terminal. I am also wearing a nice pair of
comfy sneakers with an nice stripe pattern on the sides.

If it says Valerie Stevens I probably have it - I never ceased to be amazed at
this line - great value for the dollar. Today I am wearing a white skirt with
muted black checks by Jones & Company and a Valerie Stevens sweater top and
matching
shrug all in whites that match the skirt. Great looking outfit - threw it
together this
morning and had loads of compliments all

As I recall, back when men wore stocks, they were white, & certainly never
lime-green, be the quantity what it might. Eustace Tilley's stock, on the
classic _New Yorker_ cover, is white.

Its Monday, and after a brief staff meeting at the office, Amy and I are
calling on more clients today. We also have lunch with a big client, and this
evening, cousin and I are attending a cocktail party being given by a firm with

What a beautiful weekend we had! I spent most of it out in the
gardens (vegetable garden at a rented plot in a nearby park, flowers
and vegetables at the new house, and more flowers at the old house
which we still own), weeding, tying up tomatoes, deadheading, and
harvesting. It was glorious.

James and I went to see "Space Cowboys" last night. With Tommy Lee
Jones, what's not to love?

Today's outfit is casual, for a day spent at the computer and
calculator:

- black Naot slides
- beige linen pants, with a pattern of roses (Laura Ashley) in pink
and gold, and blue guys who look like forget-me-nots
- pale blue short sleeved cardigan (LLBean)

For the bike ride, add a broad-brimmed Kaminski hat.

I am super casual for a many-errand-Monday:

Lauren stretch denim shorts
heather gray Dallas Stars CCM t-shirt
dk brown Cole Haan slides

My daughter is the cute one in: blue plaid Babymini par Catimini short set. The
top has slit sides and a little kitten on the front. The shorts have scalloped
leg openings. Her eyes are such a pretty shade of blue - they are even darker
when I dress her in blue. Her white leather sandals are from Stride Rite and
are strappy with rhinestones at the toe. She loves to pull one off and toss it
if I am in waiting in line somewhere...

Oi. Such a day I'm having already. Got up, dressed, took the dog for
his walk, breakfasted, and hit the streets. I remembered that today
is the day the University Provost and President are visiting the
Library and that I was to make a short presentation to them about my
department's work in conserving our papyrus collection (University of
Michigan Library has the largest collection of papyrus outside the
Middle East. The supreme prize of the collection is the oldest known
copy of St. Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, from early 3rd
century Common Era). Astutely, I realized that red sneakers, pink
argyle ankle socks, a short chino trouser-styled skirt, and red/white
striped boat neck top with 3/4 sleeves was not professional enough.

Ran back inside and upstairs and changed into black Ferragamo t-strap
pumps, black linen suirt, cream silk tank top, single strand of
graduated black pearls, diamond stud earrings. Ran back down the
stairs and Madhu ran over and rubbed up against me, wiping his large
dog mouth all over my skirt. In a flash, I intuited that dog slobber
would not be viewed as a professional accessory, so I headed back up
the stairs and changed - yet again - into:

- black Ferragamo low-heeled slip on shoes
- blue-black silk trousers
- moss gree slubbed silk shirt, cut like a boxy little jacket with a
small stand-up collare and tiny pearl buttons
- exhanged black pearls for a shorter strand of white
- black Kaminski bowler-esque hat

Back downstairs, fended off the dog who by now thought we were playing
a very wonderful game, and rode my bike hell-for-leather to the
Library. Where a message awaited saying that the visit has been
postponed.

But, hey, I'm looking good and thinking that I'll call James and
suggest he take me out to lunch.

Whew!!

School uniforms are nice. My son is about to start in a new private
school and will have to wear a uniform. Of course, he's only in the
first grade so hasn't really cared what he wore previously anyways.

Today I'm in a casual, office attire. I'm leaving my job soon so have
been dressing down a little bit:

- Black shoes
- Black socks
- Black jeans
- Black and white print shirt

Now that I think about it, I wear quite a bit of black. Not a good
thing when it's 100+ outside.

Carla, I'm pooped just reading your email, but all the outfits sounded great!
And yes, you've earned a special lunch. As for me, I'm in complete schmatta
wear, fighting a stomach bug, and feeling as blah as my gray sweatpants. The
only bright note of this ensem: my new adorable Gap v-neck, 3/4 sleeve tee

we finally broke our heat wave with rain and flash flooding. Now it's hot and

Your post shows that one must always have a number of appropriate
clothing changes clean and available at all times for those two minute
outfit changes. I have a friend who takes a good hour getting dressed
"to go out" and I'm the one who allows herself about ten minutes to
put the whole look together (and that's when I'm trying).
During the day I'm wearing a peach polo, beige linen shorts, beige
linen sandals with gold watch and earrings.
For a barbecue political fundraiser later today I'll wear tan linen
slacks, a black scoop neck short sleeve sweater, black sandals and
gold jewelry.

Its Saturday, and we're up early to do a video teleconference with some
overseas clients (these little video cams are sooo neat!, but it means I have
to drag my skinny butt into the office at 3-4 in the morning! Maybe I'll get
one for my next laptop...). After a nap, the usual Saturday morning chores and
shopping, and some work in the garden. This evening, Amy and I are off to do a
little clubbing with some of her friends (at 30-something, I'm gonna feel more
like a chaperone than 'one of the girls' <sigh>). Sunny skies, warm, highs in
the low 80s.

For this morning:
- Black short-sleeved summer-weight cashmere top (v-neck, surplice wrap)
- Black denim jeans (VS 'London Jean')
- Black clogs (Dansko)

For day:
- Gray/pink Champion Jogbra top
- Light blue chambray work shirt (tails tied under bust 'Connie-style' <waving

- Pink denim button-fly shorts (Nordstrom Brass Plum)

For tonight:
- A silver-sequined/black jersey halter top
- Black pashmina shawl

- Black strappy sandals (2 3/4" heels) from Andre Assous.

Oh, it was such a glorious weekend here! Sunny, warm (not hot),
crystalline blue skies - perfect gardening weather. I cleaned a
couple of beds in the begetable garden and put in seed for second
crops of lettuces, broccoli raab, Swiss chard, etc. Harvested
carrots, beets, and early potatoes. The beets are *so* pretty: an
heirloom Italian type called chioggia. The flesh is bright, deep pink
spiralled with white - kind of like a peppermint lollipop. I love the
way they look sliced in a salad. Mmmmm.

For most of the weekend, then, I wore gardening clothes which are a
theme and variations on:
- old black sneakers
- old, mismatched socks (when one sock of a pair goes missing, I wait
a couple of weeks. If it doesn't reappear, the remaining sock goes in
with my gardening clothes and lives the rest of its life in "mixed
marriage" with some other sock. Or, to be more accurate, it lives the
rest of its life in a mad series of one-day stands with other socks.)
- old t-shirts, many of which have either dinosaurs or motorcycles on
them
- sunblock
- bug spray
- broad-brimmed straw hat

Today, for a series of meetings:
- red strappy sandals, 1" heel
- black linen skirt, trouser-styled, lower calf length
- beaded belt (blues, oranges, yellows predominating) that says Mohawk
Trail, Massachusetts on it
- heavy cream silk blouse with small peaked lapels and French cuffs
- double strand of pearls
- diamond stud earrings
- my great grandmother's wedding band, which looks like a miniature
crown of leaves with white gold fruit nestled among the leaves

For outside, a Kaminski straw bowler-type hat

Hi!!

We went on a 'surprise' trip this weekend to Mackinac Is. off northern
Michigan. We haven't been there in years and never with the kids. Thru
a business arrangement my husband secured reservations at the last
minute at the Grand Hotel...it was fantastic...a little pricey though
when you consider that you can fly to Paris for about one night's stay
(for one room, we needed a suite and a single). But very elegant and
lovely accomodations. Formal dining was included and that was fun but a
bit of a hassle getting the boys to look (act) reasonable.Lots of
biking and shopping as well. Good bye summer!

Back to earth and soon back to school for everyone!!

Ooooh, the Grand Hotel... I've never stayed there but have gazed
longingly at all the rockers on the porch.

Today's outfit is:

- a pair of shoes handed down from my father-in-law. Yes, they are a
trifle long (not very) and a trifle wide but they are absolutely to
die for. Black and white spectator shoes, with the white part of a
pebble-grain leather and the black accents smooth calf. Beautifully
perforated accent lines (including the top, visible edge of the
tongue!) and a complex design on the toes. These are fab-o.
- white cotton argyle ankle socks (with the diamonds being fuschia and
pale blue)
- white linen trousers, double-pleated front, small cuffs
- dark, rich brown alligator belt with nickel buckle
- cream colored handkerchiekf linen shirt, impeccably ironed this
morning and now impeccably wrinkled
- handkerchief linen linen handkerchief, white with pale blue accent
threads at the hems, folded and in my shirt pocket
- diamond stud earrings

For outside and the bike ride to work, a hand-me-down hat from my
f-i-l: a gorgeous very fine straw pork-pie hat, the color of mown
hay. I removed the hat band, which I did not like, and replaced it
with a hat band fashioned of an old, 1.5" wide silk tie handed down
from - you guessed it! my father-in-law. The silk is slubbed, the
colors are thick-and-thin stripes of 3 colors blue: pale, steel, and
Prussian.

This is one hell of an outfit, if I do say so myself!!

killing fashion pace she set herself this morning...

I see in the paper every morning, I couldn't begin to tell you what is going on
and furthermore, could care less. My
goodness, there are so many other things to consume my time and my interests.

Signs of end of summer in Ann Arbor:
- the marching band is back and practicing. You can hear them from
our house.
- armies of repairpersons and painters flooding all the student
neighborhoods, making apartments minorly presentable
- messages to staff about move-in day and which streets will be
closed, which made one-way
- feeling of impending batten-down-the-hatches everywhere in town

So, as summer wanes, I wear:

- fuschia sandals
- cream-colored heavy silk twill skirt
- beaded belt that says "Virginia City" on it
- pale blue cotton/silk knit vest, nicely shaped and with little
lapels.
- steel blue linen double-breasted jacket

Enjoy your Thursdays, all!

For a busy Thursday:

white cotton ribbed Fitigues top -short sleeve
Lauren stretch denim shorts
white RL socks
white Nike

pretty boring compared to my daughter in:
Pink floral Baby Lulu dress -has big cabbage roses on the skirt and a tapestry
design on the bodice. The neckline and short sleeves are trimmed in tiny white
lace. Tiny white socks trimmed with lace that looks tatted and soft white
leather mary janes. Her floppy hat is the the same rose print as her dress. I
have tried cute barrettes but she takes then out and chews on them...

I am going to feel underdressed with her!

Have a great day!

It's been ages since I've posted, so I figured I'd give it a go. So, for the
sticky 90 degree weather:

black racerback tank top with a multi-colored rhinestone sunburst that I glued
on myself
Ralph Lauren black nylon skirt with drawstrings pulling the hem to mid-calf
(found on the back sale rack for $12!)
26 Redsugar kickass bright red velcro shoes--they look like cycling shoes
red Manhattan Portage messanger bag
assorted accessories--rhinestone collar, black leather cuff on one wrist,
studded cuff on the other

An old man approached me outside the library and said I was a "beautiful study
in black and red." I love it when older people can appreciate the way I look
rather than be shocked by it!

On this past Thursday, when I spent most of the day dealing with office stuff
in advance of my trip, and sitting in with Amy while she dealt with a client or
two...and then we had dinner with friends tonight... (cloudy, warm (80s) and
humid, with showers in the evening)...

- White button-front denim shirtdress
(shortsleeved, mid-thigh hem)
- White woven leather espadrilles (flat heels)
- Black microfiber trench-style raincoat (mid-calf), and black rubber/vinyl
garden clogs for outdoors just in case.

Its Friday, and along with helping Amy chase the end-of-week-paperwork, we have
a staff meeting/luncheon today, and we're generally tidying up loose ends at
the office. Tonight, I'm taking mom and Amy to dinner at our favorite Indian
restaurant. Partly sunny today, highs in the mid 80s.

Once again, 'feeling my hormones sing', I wear:

- My favorite black/white diagonally striped silk shantung shirtdress
(short-sleeves, polo collar, full mid-calf length skirt)
- White linen cropped length jacket (3/4 length sleeves)
- White/black open-toed 'spectator' sling-back pumps (2 3/4" stacked wood
heels) from Andre Assous

Everyone have a great weekend!
