Are you confusing shared ownership with a shared assembly line?
Just because lines X are owned by the same company does *not* mean that
they are the exact same thing. Hint: Think Cadillac and Chevy.

So tell us: which Lancome products correspond with the cheaper L'Oreal
products? I have often wondered if this kind of similarity existed, but when I
check the ingredient lists, there is a significant difference. It would be
easy to assume that Feel Perfecte and Maqui Libre are the same formula with
different shades, that the Shine Control skin care equals the Lancome oily
skin products. But are they really identical?

I think so too, just look at the different varieties of mascara, foundation and their
eyeliner is just the same as art liner.
As Paula Begoun has stated many times, it's all in the ingredients.
Cosmair uses the same ingredients in Lancome and L'Oreal. In fact,
because L'Oreal is a world leader in cosmetics, their budget is much
larger. Save your money and buy L'Oreal when possible.

Okay um I was recently reading the graduate recruitment brochure for
L'Oreal and It seems to 'own' loads of skincare companies - they were
recruiting for both technical and sales type people. Surely its all down
to who has a bright idea rather than the labs used - and then a decision over
which brand(s) to market something under
Helen
I have Paula Begoun's latest edition, but she doesn't talk about
Imanence Mat, just the Imanence. I'd love to find a similar product as
the Imanence Mat for less $$-it's the only foundation that I've found
that doesn't make me break out. And on that note...
If anyone has suggestions for other foundations for acne prone skin,
I'll take 'em. I really don't have super oily skin like I did when I was
younger (I'm 30), but my skin will definitely break out like crazy with
the wrong products.
I've used Max Factor Balanced (?) makeup, Revlon Oil Free New Complexion
(the one that's in a compact), Shiseido Oil Free foundation, and they
all make me break out. I prefer stuff in a tube or compact, if possible.
thanks,
Jackie

Hi Sarah,
I'm a cosmetic chemist. I've been formulating all sorts of goop for
over thirty years and I still get jazzed about going to work. I find
this end of the cosmetic industry to be very rewarding from many
different levels.
A good way t start is by networking. The annual scientific meeting of
the Society of Cosmetic Chemists will be held in NYC in December. For
more information check out the SCC's web page at
http://www.scconline.org/
As a student, I'm sure there will be reduced cost. That info other
career resource information is available thru the web page.
She could also access many cosmetic chemists via the Cosmetic Industry
Email Directory found at
http://www.skypoint.com/members/mhevey/emaildir.htm
There are also a few executive recruiters that deal specifically with
cosmetic scientist. One well know and respected recruiter is
Rob Snyder
Aristo Consultants

Melville, NY 11747
TEL: (516) 423-3600
FAX: (516) 423-3610
An of course there is the old alumnus route. For example, Dr. David
Cannell, VP of R&D for Redken Labs did his undergraduate work at Yale.
Hope these ideas help.
