There is a very big chance that I will be getting married next summer in
Italy. It will be more of an elopement though (just me and my SO will be
there) ... but then again by that time others may be coming along. Anyways,
I don't want a wedding dress, but more of an informal one which I desperatly
need help on finding. I know I still have a year here, but I'd like to be
able to have an assortment of dresses to pick from. Any suggestions of
designers or sites that I can access??

Another thing that I need is any good info on Italy from people that have
been to Italy themselves (their experiences, places they ate, places they
shopped, where they went, their opinions on cities, etc.). I heard before
that some people on AF went to Italy, so any information would be helpful.
I'm feeling somewhat overwhelmed, we're still trying to figure out how to
deal with things.

It all started out as a month long vacation to Italy, then somehow the SO
got onto the topic of a book that he heard about called "Beyond Vegas: 25
Exotic Wedding and Elopement Destinations Around the World" then casually
mentioned how Italy is included in the book and that it would be special if
we got married over there. Who knows, we might change our minds down the
road, but as for now I love the idea. The book has info on where we can
contact ministers and get the marriage license and all that fun stuff. I'm
extremely excited and can't wait, but then again I somewhat feel like i'm a
fish out of water here!!@# I just want us to have a wonderful time, for
everything to go along smoothly, and for us to get our money worth.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I know I could trust many of you
to help me out with finding a perfect dress!!

We went through a similar experience, although were married in England.
Julie wore a casual dress as we're not fresh off the rack so to speak,
meaning divorce was behind us both. She had everything together before
we went over and I was actively involved with her choices. To be
honest, it was a lot of fun. Yeah, I know mum's supposed to do that
sort of thing, but she did the first time round and we wanted everything
ready before we got there.

Anyway, we've got some of the pics scanned but I don't have them on this
machine. If I get time tomorrow after work (1am) I can put a couple of
her up on my site, just to give you an idea what we did. She really
looked great ;-)

Oh, pictures would be wonderful :)

As an update to the post before I somewhat forgot to write info about myself
(which would help a lot in the styles of gowns that would be flattering on
me, etc). I'm on the skinny side, i'm 5'7" 120lbs, fair skin with freckles,
blonde hair, and green eyes. I need a neckline that is flattering for my
small chest too. I often can't wear many dresses due to having a small
chest (32b, actually it's inbetween an a cup and b ... too big for a, too
small for b, and it's already worse enough with my shoe size having a
similiar problem .. i need like an 8.75!). Once more any help/suggestions
would be greatly appreciated!

Paige:

I'm going through the same thing--I'm getting married next week on
Maui. It is a quiet elopment on a beach.

As for dresses: I bought four dresses and finally decided on one of
them. You're just going to have to look around and decide what works
for you.

One dress I bought that sounds like it would work nice for you was a
Ralph Lauren I bought at Macy's. It was a soft pastel pink, lined
lace; sleeveless, v-neck, empire waist with a great flowing skirt, full
length.

What i finally decided on was a Laundry dress. It is raw silk, kind of
a wheat/gold color, with embroidered flowers with an oriental look to
the flowers. It is strapless, long and very straight. Thank heavens
for my Wacoal strapless bra.

By the way, my best shopping was surprisingly at Macy's. They have
a "wedding bells" department that has lots of dresses that would work
for the casual wedding where you still want to feel like a princess.

(By the way, my honey is wearing a Tommy Bahama aloha shirt and silk
shorts. We'll both be barefoot.)

If anyone has any ideas on jewelry....

Hi Paige :)

There was a website here that was mentioned a while ago in regards to formal
dresses...

www.watters.com and now they have a funkier spin off at www.wtoo.com

I'm not sure if you have access to these stores in the States, but compared
to what you can buy here in Australia, these dresses are gorgeous! I like
them because they have nice clean lines, a variety of fabrics and the colour
choice is fantastic. Just my opinion though...you may think they're all
ugly! :)

Good luck with the choice of dress (let us know what you decide on!) and
remember just to totally enjoy your time in Italy (and shop like craaazy!)
:)
