For us/me:
textiles in the local prints
2 signed tapa painting for the collection
1 black pearl bracelet, all pearls, matches a necklace I have, $100 so I
couldn't say no
tiare perfume from a local perfumer we met the last time we were there
a yellow shell lei choker
a coconut leaf market tote
1 back-friendly tahitian print backpack you wear like a sash and can flip
around easily--I like a lot
All the local women carried elaborate coconut leaf woven bags, box-shaped
with handles and lined w/ tropical prints. They were interesting, but not
travel-friendly and for the price I couldn't see myself giving it enough
use.
Many women wore the pareos in the streets, also in the captial, some turning
them into elaborate dresses. Loved this look.
Many of the French women still wore capris.
Black pearls everywhere.
Lots of flowers in the hair.
Thanks for reading.

I hope you liked it. I hated it when we went because it was so filthy. The
black sand on the one side of the island is also torture on swim suits.
We had a dual reason for going there. We had donated and purchased things for
a church there.
Another reason I did not like it there. Some quarantine was going on there at
Bora Bora and I got so sick.

Sounds like an awesome trip, I especially love the part about flowers in the
hair. Thanks for writing!

<<It is definitely 2002 there, but you can still see some of Gauguin's
Tahiti as well.>>
Exactly who I was picturing when you described the flowers in the hair
and the pareos!
