Oh yes. Not everyone on this group is sixteen.

I got into fandom in '67 but paid a LOT of attention to fanhistory.
I was in the N3F. I remember Terry Carr as a fan, Bhob Tucker, and the
name Carl Brandon is familiar, though I couldn't say why. You'll be
happy to learn Walt Willis is still with us, and will be Fan GoH at
an upcoming con, though I couldn't really say which one. Burbee, yes
I remember him too. 4SJ is of course still very active out here.

Do you remember Lou Tabakow? How about Howard DeVore, of the many many
books for sale, and the two nubile daughters (what EVER became of them,
anyway?)? I remember Dean McLaughlin and had a very nice lunch at
Dave Kyle's house in England. Tom Sherred used to show up at Midwestcons,
too.

And so forth. Yes, some of us are still around...

Just now noticed your Keywords line:

Keywords: N3F stf WAW Laney NoLaCon Void Innuendo FAPA
^^^^^^^^
You'll be happy to learn that the last issue of Innuendo, that Terry
was working on at the time of his death, has finally been printed.
It was done to support either TAFF or DUFF, I forget which, by Jerry
Kaufman.

At a Dallas Convention in 1989 or 1990 (a Dallas Fantasy Fair, I think,
maybe something else), there was a panel on the history of fandom. The
panelists were all 40+, some pushing 70 (+?). Many had spent thier
youth and young adult years in the Northeast (North of Washington & East
of Chicago - I am being very broad). It was an interesting panel. I
don't remember any of the names, as this was several semesters ago (I
think - I've lost track of time).

At (then) under 21, I felt like a baby.

WAS ANYONE READING THIS ON THAT PANEL?

Lou died a few years back. Howard is retired and still knocking around
Dearborn, MI. He was at the last Confusion and seemed to be doing OK.
I haven't seen his daughters in years. Dean McLaughlin used to have a
bookstore down the street from where I work, but folded it up a few years
back and was going to devote more time to writing. Both Howard and Dean
can be found in the hucksters room at pretty much any southeast Michigan
con, ie, Conclave, Confusion, Contraption, etc.

Peter, some of the folks at Corflu this weekend would love to comunicate
with you, either by voice or e-mail. I've sent you a letter with some
suggestions. I'll pick you up a copy of the final INNUENDO, but I'll
need a paper mail address to send it to you.

Please pardon me while I interrupt the topic of "fans" to bring up
fans of about 30 years ago. My name is Peter Graham and I used to be
heavily involved in science fiction fandom of the '50's and early
'60's, with Terry Carr and Bhob Stewart and Dave Rike and (does
anyone remember?) Carl Brandon.

In this audience I feel as if I've come back from the grave. Does

My Ghod, it's The Young Man in a Great Big Hurry! I saw Dave Rike just about a
month ago at a Little Men's meeting. I must confess my knowledge of you
comes from Terry Carr's Fandom Harvest.

No, Sixth fandom is not forgotten. Gosh, who else to mention? Do you
remember Dick Ellington or Roy Seiler? They are still here in the Bay Area.

Peter Graham -- that name sounds familiar. Did you do a zine? Did
people write about your fabulous fannish adventures? Are you a footnote
in Fannish history?

Confan: Who cares about fanzines; cons are where the action is.
Zinefan: Yeah, well when the history of fandom is written, we
will write it.
Confan: Yeah, but nobody will read it.

As Ron Ellik once said -- the trouble with fandom is that there are too
many BNF's I've never heard of. What I say is that the trouble with
fandom is that there are too many fans who don't know who Ron Ellik was
or what a BNF is.

Forget about fandom. They all go to conventions and SMOF and wear funny
costumes. Leslie Turek got a Hugo for a fanzine about putting on
conventions. The oldtime fanzine fans are either tech writers for
Megalithic Corp or shambling about, stoned out of their gourds in
New Mexico.

Yeah, we remember. I drank for ten years trying to forget but it didn't
take. We remember.

N3F -- Stillborn, with a 30 year rerun as the Night of The Living Dead.

Speaking of the Night of The Living Dead have you every been at a con
with Sam Moskowitz as the guest speaker?

FAPA -- The elephants graveyard of fanzine fans.

South Gate in '58. Missed it. Letter hacked in the early 50's, skipped
the late 50's and got back in in the 60's. Left it all in the 80's for
the joys of volleyball and running a software company. Don't need fandom
any more - USENET is the world's biggest APA and a backspace key beats
corflu any day of the week.

Remember:
It's a proud and lonely thing to be a fan.
Fans are slans.
