the Upfront Guide to San Francisco
Dan Akroyd, maybe?
There's the scene in Annie Hall where Annie's speeding along without a
care and Woody's life flashing before his eyes. But then there's
Deconstructing Harry where he drives the Volvo up to his award ceremony
in upstate New York.
Personally, I don't think it really matters if he drives or not.

No, no. He does drive it. And very well so. (Not like his driving in
Annie Hall.) But eventually, the car breaks down, and they end up
walking.

I think that's Deconstructing Harry.
In Annie Hall, he says he has a license but can't drive because he has
"too much hostility."

Yes, he does drive.
He was even spoking on the phone while driving :-)
Well, he doesn't seem to love driving but he does do it in a few movies. He
drives in Annie Hall, Play It Again, Sam, Broadway Danny Rose, Deconstructing
Harry, Take The Money and Run (the car in the house!), and I'm sure there's
probably one or two others I've missed somewhere. I also think that he does
some driving in Manhattan when he and Diane Keaton go up to the country. Now
that I think of it I think that he might drive one of those futuristic cars in
Sleepers also. But these are just in movies. I'm sure if he needed to he could
drive a car. I mean the guys brilliant so driving probably wouldn't be a big
challenge. I wonder what he thinks of cars in general though. He seems to like
city settings where cars are pretty much not needed since everything is within
walking distance, a short cab ride, or a subway ride away.
Yeah, i also think that he's one of the drivers on the way to the bank at the
end of Take the Money and Run. Isn't he also doing a bit of driving in the
beginning of the part with the giant breast in Everything You Always Wanted...?

Yeah, that's a good point. He doesn't seem like one of those authors or
directors who seem to make driving into some sort of grand thing. You know,
like the car is this thing that will give you all this freedom and independence
or some means of escape from a bad situation. I think that Woody would be more
into solving the inner problems than looking for some external escape, or
glorifying that kind of escape.
Take Yale in Manhattan. He's sort of characterized as this superficial guy
who would rather spend his money on an expensive car when he doesn't even
really need one since he lives in Manhattan instead of working on his book or
just working on having some integrity.
In Broadway Danny Rose, Danny and Tina drive away from the big country
house. They are just ahead
of "Johnny's brothers". Tina is describing her former husbands career as a
mobster. "Oh a professional man" Danny comments.
Also in Bananas, Fielding Mellish has just finished the scene with the
female lead who comes to his door collecting signatures for "Citizens for
San Marcos" (Yes, I'm drawing a blank on her name) In the next scene he is
driving a V.W. bug with one headlight smashed in fantasizing about himself
as a strong masculine figure, before he steps out the door and falls into an
open man hole.
So in a way, I guess that fits with the idea of Woody rejecting the symbol
of the car wealth and power.
