I'm a writer looking for any of Woody's musings on the subject of mahjong.

Specifically, I've heard one "quote," to the extent of -- How do Jewish women
commit suicide? ...by swallowing mahjong tiles -- reportedly from a circa-1960s
monologue of Woody's, but need to validate the exact words and source
(monologue, book, film, play, etc.). Any of his other references to majjong,
similarly validated, would also be greatly appreciated

Thanks so much for you kind assistance,

pootchkie

It's what Long Duc Dong called his wiener.

There was a line in one of his stand-up routines. I'm trying to remember
it... something about how he was getting married and had brought the girl
home to meet his parents (who apparently did not approve). And he said that,
upon hearing the news, his mother locked herself in the bathroom and took an
overdose of mahjongg tiles.

I will say that is pretty close to the line (I've heard the albums about a
hundred times), but it may not be verbatim...

As I recall, we see it used in "Annie Hall," no? We see Alvie performing,
and using the bit....

Actually it wasn't about bringing the girl home it was about either getting
kicked out of nyu or getting divorced...i listened to the stand up cd
yesterday...i'm thinking it was nyu.

from "Don't Drink the Water" (1967):

WALTER Some housewife. She's a professional mah-jongg hustler. She
carried around her own tiles.

A Chinese gambling game, with four players, played with very chunky tiles.
From what I can gather, it is supposed to be popular amongst elderly Jewish
women (only because George's mother in "Seinfeld" plays it!).

P.S. on the Oriental theme, I saw "What's Up Tiger Lily" the other day, and
I have to say that it was one of the most dire films I've managed to sit
through. I suspect that the film it was making fun of was probably better in
its original form, and that's saying something!

He did the joke as a stand up comic. It was recorded on a double album set titled: The Night Club Years
