Ethel was a Miss Newton, who became a Mrs Rowley in 1903, was widowed in
1910, became a Mrs Wayman in 1911, was widowed in 1912, became a Mrs
Wodehouse in 1914, Lady Wodehouse on Jan 1, 1975 and a widow a few weeks
later.

Leonora, the daughter of Leonard Rowley and adopted daughter of Plum,
tragically died in 1944 of complications from what should have been a
minor operation.

Now, here is my chance to repost this question. I have searched high and low,
read many books including Phelps', asked a good many people from different
groups including pgwnet, but so far have drwan a blank. 'No one seems to know
nothing' about this mysterious first husband of Ethel, the Brit Leonard Rowley,
who was in India, and worked with the Ooregaum(?) gold mines near Kolar, in
South India. He is said to have died in 1910 after drinking contaminated water.
His only known legacy to the world was his daughter, Leonora. I was told that
she was regualrly in touch with her real father's relatives in England, even
after she became a Wodehouse by adoption. The exact location of Rowley's grave
in India is a mystery, apparently no record exists. Is there any chance of some
brainy cove here having a clue? Can some energetic person in England with spare
time, contact Rowley's present-day realtives, wherever they may be, and try to
learn more?

--Jerry Shoesmith, who wants to place a wreath on the grave of that forgotten
man for having given Plum his beloved Leonora, thereby enriching his life, and
consequently ours, too.
