Further to the recent discussion regarding the ancestry of Plum,
please find below what I hope is an accurate genealogy of the:

Lords Wodehouse

The glorious Wodehouse family traces its family history
back into the mists of time, and can trace its noble connections
back into the 1500's, to Sir Roget Wodehouse, MP, who begat:

1rst Baronet, Sir Philip Wodehouse, MP (15??-1623)
who was succeeded by his son
2nd Baronet, Sir Thomas Wodehouse, MP (d.1688)
who was succeeded by his son
3rd Baronet, Sir Philip Wodehouse, MP (1608-1681)
who was succeeded by his grandson
4th Baronet, Sir John Wodehouse, MP (1669-1754)
who was succeeded by his son
5th Baronet, Sir Armine Wodehouse, MP (1714-1777)
who was succeed by his son
6th Baronet, Sir John Wodehouse, MP (1741-1834)
who was created 1rst Baron Wodehouse of Kimberley
and who was succeeded by his son
7th Bt & 2nd Baron, Sir John, Lord Wodehouse, MP (1771-1846)
who was not succeeded by his son, Hon. Henry
but instead by his grandson
8th Bt & 3rd Baron, John, Lord Wodehouse KG, PC (1826-1902)
who was created Earl of Kimberley in 1866
and was succeeded by his son
9th Bt & 2nd Earl, John, Lord Kimberley (1848-1932)
who was succeeded by his son
10th Bt & 3rd Earl, John, Lord Kimberley (1883-1941)
who died in enemy action in the Second World War
and was succeeded by his son
11th Bt & 4th Earl, John, Lord Kimberely (1924- )
who will, in time, be succeeded by his son & heir
John Armine Wodehouse, aka Lord Wodehouse (1951- )
(info from 1976 Debretts, so we may already be on 12th Bt)

Now, the relationship to our beloved Plum is thus:
5th Baronet, Sir Armine Wodehouse, MP (1714-1777), who begat
1) Sir John Wodehouse, 6th Bt & 1rst Baron Wodehouse
also begat
2) Rev. PhilipWodehouse, who begat
1)Col. Philip Wodehouse, who begat
1) Rev. Philip John Wodehouse
2) Col. Charles Wodehouse
3) Rev. Frederic Armine Wodehouse
4) Henry Ernest Wodehouse, CMG (1845-1929), who begat
1) Ernest Armine Wodehouse
2) Pelham Grenville Wodehouse (aka "Plum) (b.1881)
3) Richard Lancelot Wodehouse

So Plum's great-grandfather was the second son of the 5th Baronet,
and brother to the 1rst Baron Wodehouse. Thus Plum was in remainder
to the baronetcy (rather distantly), but not the barony or the earldom.
And Plum was therefore the third cousin to the 1rst Earl.

Thus, the Wodehouse family escutcheon, which a posted previously,
should bear the following cadency marks, to indicate Plum's position
with respect to the senior male line of the family:

a crescent, a martlet (small footless bird), and another crescent,
to indicate his position as a second son of a fourth son of a first son
(no mark) of a second son of the 5th Baronet. I would arrange these
on the chevron, but they could appear elsewhere on the shield instead.

Hope this has clarified the situation somewhat.

Yours ancesterally,

Green Swizzle Wooster

I have been drinking from the ancestral stream, the river of Time.
With some judicious sipping from the Fount of Honours, don't you know?
Rather bracing, this vintage Wodehouse port of gentility...

After reading Green Swizzle's remarkable contribution about Dr Sir Plum's
lineage I have one other question about family trees. Is it possible the
anonymous author of "Types of Ethical Theory" is among Green Swizzle
Wooster's immediate ancestors?

Just wondering,

The Mixer (parentage uncertain)
