The Death Star could only be destroyed by one with the Force (despite

Well, I think the Falcon was leading the attack. Wedge, being a

Well Mr. I'm new to Wedge, however you may be...
God is a harsh word especially for one so great as Wedge.

a) He did not bail out at the last minute. He was shot and was smart enough
not to kill himself like all the other "stay on target guys."
Farmboy said "You can't do any more back there." Farmboy wanted all the limelight to himself because he is such a sucky-poo. He can't handle Wedge being a better pilot than himself. I don't know if you guys know this, but in my version of the script whiney-baby sabatoges Wedge's X-wing. I know this may seem hard to believe but Lucas knew the legend of Wedge. Mark Hamill started sucking his thumb too much and before you knew Wedge says "Sorry." Only to come back to shoot down Vader's tie fighter.
Wedge knew if he saved himself he would live to destroy another deathstar.
Something ole farmboy had nothing to do with. (In both of the other Death Stars).

b) Lando somehow was promoted to General because Wedge was so fucking awesome he wanted to stay and fight where the action was and not pussy around in silly black robes. Lando was in command and there was nothing Wedge could do about, so he didn't save Wedge's butt. The Falcon also had scanning devices to figure out if the shield surrounding the Death Star was still on. X-wing's aren't equipped with stuff as cool as that. In the original version of the script, it is Wedge's X-wing who makes it out alive, and Lando and the Falcon who were destroyed because Wedge was the only pilot in the galaxy who could fly out of that.

c) Farmboy hogged all the limelight from the battle of Yavin, see response (a).
It is well know that Farmboy was sucking General Dodonna's cock, because Farmboy knew that was the only way he could make it to the top. I'm running out of time, so may the Wedge be with you.

Bye Marc,
from Chris and Brad.

The fact is the reason Wedge didn't accept the rank of general is because
he is irresponsible. And don't give me this "where the action is" or
"i can't leave my precious rogue squadron". Wedge was scared to take on
the responsibility of leading an attack, therefore kept rejecting the
alliances offers of general.

Wedge undoubtably is one of the greatest fighter pilots in the rebellians
history however to call him a god is rediculous. It's his immaturity
and lack of leadership skills that weigh him down.

Before the battle actually commenced, the fleet was attacking the DS,
however they didn't realize the shield was still up. If Lando didn't
figure out the sheild was still up most of the fleet would have been
destroyed.

As it turns out :
"some didn't make it. Three flanking x-wings nicked the invisible
deflector shield, spinning out of control, exploding in flames
along the shields surface" -James Kahn

Does that answer your question?

He didn't say that the x-wing wasn't equipped with scanners, just that
they're not as good. There's no way an X-wing is going to have scanners
as good as the Falcon's.

BZZZT!!! Wrong on both counts. 1) The Falcon is *much* faster than
an X-Wing. Offhand, I'd say that the Falcon is as fast or faster than
an A-Wing. 2) Wedge did not have a substantial lead going out of
the reactor chamber. A few ship lengths at best.

As of ROTJ, he had not earned the rank of General. Lando was promoted
over him not because Wedge declined, but because Lando was promoted
over him.

Furthermore, you have a very disturbing definition of courage. In
a situation as fragile as the one the Alliance was in both prior to,
and for a long time after, Endor, each man must put aside personal
ambition for the sake of the whole, or else the cause is doomed.
Wedge refused promotion not because he was frightened, but because
he realized that his greatest skills were his skills behind the
flightstick of a X-Wing. There were plenty of others as good or better
than he at reading a tactical display and moving the pieces around
as if the battle was a simple game of chess--but no one matched his
skill in a X-Wing (no one without the benifit of the Force, that is :-).

You know, I normally don't stoop to spelling flames, but when someone
comes onto a group called "alt.fan.wedge" and then calls him "immature
and lacking leadership skills," they're asking for it. Please, before
you post again, learn how to use a spell checker...

BLASPHEMER!!! (You know what I mean, even if I can't spell!!!!!)

Consider: An F-15 (or F-16, or Tornado, or whatever) has a pretty cool
sensor suite, but also relies or radar (i.e. sensors) from an E-3 Sentry
(AWACS). So, while Wedge's sensors might not have picked up anything,
the Falcon's sensors might have. It can happen.

Plausible theory #2: Farmboy sabotaged Wedge's X-Wing [again], so the
sensors were out!

Question: What would Wedge fly if he were on earth today?

1st of all wedge would of mafde it out anyways because he would
of seen the MF hit the shield and blow up and then using lightning fast
reflexes he would turn around and be safe.
2nd.)there was no way for him to know that the shield was
still yup because his xwing did have the equipment to determine that (but the
MF did )

big differance in the scanners;scanners on an xwing pick up ships but not
shields, infact i've even heard that really the scanners are on a frigate
or rusier and they just transmit the data to the xwing.

where did you get this head start crap??? they both were in the core at the
same time
and after they both shot there missles they left the only head start wedge got
was 2 seconds at most..thats not quite a big lead.

that is the biggest pile of bullshit i have ever heard.irresponisble my ass.
yea right im sure he was scared...look if you were flying f-14's in the navy
and you loved flying them and you were the leader of your squadron and you
loved the rush of flying them would you give it up for a desk job?? i dont
think so

It is this fixation with the pedestrian responsibilities of command
that separates you as a narrow-minded mortal from the Glory that is Wedge.
Only the Divine grace of Wedge is clear enough to shed the impure desires
for petty materialism and the meager gratification of hierarchical
promotion and powerful enough to survive and excel in the courageous and
noble realm of the starfighter. Clear your mind and let the divine presence
of Wedge surround you, and you too shall become a believer.
