Guys, I'm sorry for my part in today's mess. I was hoping that some
sensible conversation about it would get things worked out.

I've spent a great deal of time lately thinking about what's really
important in life. As some of you know, I spent my weekend in the
trauma unit of our local hospital. On Thursday night, my best friend's
mother was critically injured in a car accident. When I got to the
hospital an hour or so later, the doctor said they only gave her a 5%
chance of living through the night. So I stayed at the hospital with my
best friend the entire night, waiting for his mother to die. Waiting
for the inevitable moment when a doctor came and told us that she was
gone.

Now I tend to think a lot when I'm tired, so I spent a great deal of
time thinking that night. Thinking about what's really important.
Family's important...they're the people you know you can go back to
when everything else falls apart. Happiness is important. Being
satisfied with the path you've chosen in life is important. Following
your dreams is important. Taking care of the people you love is
imporant. To me, that's the most important.

Sitting there watching Marty wait for that horrible news to come, I
also thought about what isn't important. In our lives, we all spend so
much time worrying about things that don't matter. Compared to the
truly important things, what does it matter who posts how much on what
subject on AFW? I mean that for both sides of today's debate. In the
long run, what will it matter a week, a month, or a year from now?

I really like AFW. A lot. You guys are the coolest group of people I've
ever known online...and considering hwo much time I spent OL earlier in
my life, that's saying a lot. But I'd give up AFW in a heartbeat to be
able to go back and prevent Marty's mom's wreck.

Guys, AFW should be nothing but fun. No one should take it too
seriously. I forgot that for a while today, and for that I'm sorry. I
think we should all keep in mind what's really important next time
someone says or does something that we don't like. In the end, does it
matter? How can it?

Let's just sit back, relax, drink a tall, cold Ewok juice, and have
fun. Maybe we should have a party or something. Is the 28th coming up
anytime soon? Maybe we should declare a Tycho day as an excuse for a
party. :) But for TAWG's sake, let's forget this silly divisiveness.
AFW's for everyone...regulars, lurkers, religious figures (PK :) ),
authors, and newbies. Everyone have fun, and remember what's really
important.

*ahem* Actually, Wedge Day is Feb. 17...I need to be getting a birthday
card ready. :-) That should give us just enough time to plan a party...

And that's March 24...All the birthdays we came up with a while back
are listed at http://www.geocities.com/syc_sw/roguery/celebrate.html ,
incidentally. That's one thread we ought to restart--there are still a
lot of Rogues without a day. :-)

Oh no... I forgot to include the rest of the story. Marty's mom made it
through that night, and is still wiith us. She's going to be in the hospital
a while but it looks like she'll probably make it now.

Maybe I should have saved the whole story, but I just thought it might help
put things in a little clearer perspective.

Thanks though, Jen. They can use all the good thoughts they can get right
now.

Your friend's mom has pulled through now, I take it? I hope so.

I've been meaning to get this up and running again, and now's as good a
time as any. AFW'ers, there used to be such thing as a regular chat on
IRC once a week where some of us would hang out and chat about all sorts
of stuff. Let's do that again!

We'll try the regular old time, 8:00pm Eastern time on Friday
evenings. The chat room is #pilotchat on the JediNetwork server,
irc.jedinetwork.com port 6667 for those of you with IRC clients, and
point your browser to www.rebelpilots.com for the java client if you
don't.

Hope to see some of you tomorrow!!

Oh stop...my head's going to get big. :-)

Ya know, I can't remember whether I dubbed myself that, or if someone else

Drat, I won't be around. Though that's no excuse for you lot to skip
having a party, by any means. Meanwhile, I'll be hanging out with Mike

Um, depends on just _what_ you rent him for... I mean, think the

Who me? Heck no! Those things are for sick-minded people who should seek
professional help! The kind of people who come up with ideas like- Oh, hell.
Yeah, I guess I did. :) But the point was to earn one, not get one as a

I hope not! The only thing I've been tipped off as a potential problem is

barefoot, and basically acting like cornpone Hee Haw refugees. They'll
probably blend right in.
