Hi group,

Do any of you fans know the meaning and origin of
Vic Reeves Shooting Stars annunciations of Iranu and Uvavu?

This has been driving me nuts. I want to know!

I think they're just made-up words... like "Ketchup", and "Praline".

According to Bob Mortimer, the term Eranu came into effect when Vic
staggered up to him one night, very drunk, and slurred something at him
which sounded like 'Eranu'. Bob reckons he was trying to say 'how are you'
but it came out severely distorted by alcohol.

No idea about Uvavu, but very probably the same story.

Probably becausem it rhymed..

Weren't they both in the Oxford English dictionary of new words a few
years back?

Eranu - I put it in Google and in Yobuban it means "The Meat" - probably a Reeves and Mortimer product.....

and in Zulu Uvavu means The Net and Iranu means Friday! so maybe they got the words at random from a Zulu dictionary or something?
