After a day of considerable confusion over exactly what was going to
happen at the Indy Ice "guaranteed fight night" on Friday, Tonya
participated in a demonstration sparring match with her trainer, Paul
Brown, in a boxing ring set up near the ice rink. The demonstration drew
boos from some people who had no doubt turned up in the expectation of
some real on-ice violence, but it did help to pull in a near full house.
It also raised $1000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, a
local charity.

Earlier in the day there was some question as to whether Tonya was going
to fight at all: in an internet chat and a TV interview, Tonya had
stated that she would not do anything that would risk injuring herself
before her upcoming match in Oakland this Saturday, where she will fight
novice fighter Blanca Hilder. As it turned out, Brown wore oversized
gloves and pretended to be knocked out at one stage, proving the event
was all light-hearted.
