It is posted in another message that Galadriel is "not allowed" to go to AMAN
this is blatantly untrue. Galadriel was _allowed_ to return west after the
freeing of Beleriand by the Valar. She _chose_ not to go west at that time,
still being full of love of Middle Earth and still wishing for power and
dominion there.

Later, in LOTR, she has an Elven Ring and no-one with one of the rings of
power was permitted to return to Aman with them. She would have had to give
up her ring (which would have been difficult in the extreme as she had held it
for several hundred (or was it thousand?) years. Anyway, she also was needed
in ME to help oppose Sauron. I think, if she'd been willing to pass on her
ring to someone else, she could have returned to Aman. It is also interesting
to note that Galadriel is one of like 3 elves listed in LOTR that have been
alive since before the Coming of the Eldar to ME.

List of Elves (that I know of)
Galadriel
Cirdan
Glorfindel

That about covers it I think

Well, even if we believe that business from the Letters (sorry), Glorfindel
technically died, and therefore hasn't been alive all that time. Also,
I'm not sure Cirdan ever went to Aman--if he didn't, then we might as
well include Celeborn, because he was also alive since that period. I
might also be tempted to include someone like Erestor, who was the chief
of Elrond's household, and possibly a remnant from the Noldorian exile.
But Galadriel was indeed the most important and powerful of the Eldar in
middle-Earth, and would also be one of the most important in Aman.
Remember, she was of the royal line of not just the Noldor, but also the
Vanyar and the Teleri.

I do not think she wished for dominion, otherwise she would have seized the
opportunity to get the One from Frodo.

Oops, there are at least two Glorfindels, one definitely died and is not
the one that helped in the flight to the Ford.

Don't be so confidant. Have you read the _Unfinished_Tales_ section on
Galadriel? JRRT never quite made up his mind about Galadriel's state.

At times, JRRT said much what you say: that Galadriel *chose* not to
return because she loved Middle-earth, and also because she was
proud-- too proud to be among the least in the West, living in exile
on Tol Eressea, when she could be among the greatest in Middle-earth.

But at times, JRRT said that she was, in fact, forbidden to return to
the West, because she was the last surviving leader of the Rebellion
of the Noldor. And this fits LOTR better. Read Galadriel's Lament in
"Farewell to Lorien". "Si vanwa na, Romello vanwa, Valimar!" ("Now
lost, lost to those from the East is Valimar!")

According to the latter version, Galadriel was permitted to return to
the West after the War of the Ring because she was offered the Ring
(and thus rulership of Middle-earth), and refused it.
