There is, however, most assuredly an Oxford Rowing Club.
I think there is one, just not one that plays rugby. Google has about
161 returns for the phrase, generally pointing to either a sports ground
or a "gentleman's club". Which makes the phrase "jocks in the Oxford
Rugby Club" in the original post questionable. I can't imagine that
they would let a Scotsman join the ORC, unless he were landed gentry or
a former rugby international.

We see things not as they are, but as we are
The contemplated contraction would be complicated by the fact that "Rugby" is
itself an abbreviation (for Rugby football), so
as with the North Hinksey team's e-mail contact address, it would be ORFC.
Not to mention there are two codes of Rugby (Rugby League, and Rugby Union).
Nothing wrong with North Ainslie of course, albeit it doesn't contain the
now famous Hackett Shops:

No, it's perfecty true. There was G. M. "Slasher" Muzgash, D. O. T. "Masher"
Uglúk and B. R. D. "Cutter" Lagduf. Not to mention the dreaded O. M. "Daisy"
Mauhúr.
