I was in Border's the other day and noticed something new in the fantasy
section. A case set of something called "The Oracle of Middle Earth". It looked
to be cpmbination of "Magic", A Ojia board (sp), and a decoder ring. Anyone
seen these or have one? Are they worth buying?

I saw some in various bookshops in Ireland. I think your description is
quite accurate. Except that i would also note, that the decoder ring
was a 'golden' thing, more like a washer in shape than ring, with some
norse letters on top. Had the ring been anything like The Ring, I might
have bought it, but as it is, the whole thing seems to be a box of
nonsense.

I thought the same thing. My local bookshop has just got a copy of this and
a ME Tarot deck - talking about the magical realm of ME being in tune with
the psychis plane or some such rubbish.
Is this mix between Tolkien & New Age being newly exploited in a big way -
do we have more of such treats in store?

It is really the bane of being into Fantasy that you have to put up with
loads of New Age muck made for people who forget to follow the famous
picture Father Ted showed Dougal - Dreams INSIDE the head - reality OUTSIDE.

I'm sure that things will get *much* worse once the first movie is released.
They'll be marketing everything from Gollum action figures to Elvish underwear.

Let me guess, you don't have to wash them - the skidmarks just fade.

Well, no, but they do tend to sort of make you fade into the background.

Sorry, but it can't be repeated in mixed company. That's what you get for
taking a sabattical. : Ţ
