Durin VII & Last? Appendix family tree

in appendix A, page 361, it has Durin VII listed as "last" after an odd
break in the line below Thorin III.
seems kind of strange that tolkien would do this: an ending to the Durin
line.
that odd break could mean hundreds of years into the future i guess but it
doesn't seem to fit.

(i have a feeling that this is one more example of why i have to get a copy
of letters)
