How about Natasha Henstridge for the role as Galadriel? I mean she's got
the grace, and she isn't exactly my definition of ugliness... =)

By her looks, she could *perhaps* work...
I don't know about her acting abilities, though

I'm not sure about Natasha - she's gorgeous, but I don't think she has the
depth to play an Elf-Queen of Galadriels's stature. In fact, I don't know of
any actress who combines striking physical beauty along with the subtlety and
wisdom of a being who's lived for thousands of years. Maybe Audrey Hepburn
could have pulled it off (though she was of a very different physical make-up
from Galadriel), but she's long gone.

By your description, I come up with Emma Thompson. Depth, natural
beauty, everything. She's had a very versatile career. Anyone remember
her in The Young Ones (in my second favorite episode)?

I personally would wait for the moment when she would change into sex
addicted man eating alien... No, I don't want to wait for that during the 34th
time I will be seeing LotR part deux...*FOHCWLOLROTF*

I had forgotten about Ingrid Bergman - she would have made a good Galadriel, if
she had played her when she was a younger actress. Maybe Isabella is up to the
role, and you aptly described her - "wistfulness, and surprising merriment".

I think Michelle Pfiefer would be great. She's perhaps a little older
than how most people would imagine Galadriel looking but I think she
is the sort of acress who can appear wise and graceful without looking
too old.
(Of couse I personally think the perfect choice will for most of the
characters would be previously unknown actors)

Geez! Finally one post in the whole top of the page that I can agree with
and read without getting sick!

I think Pfeiffer would be excellent. perhaps "the look" needs to be toned
down a little, but undoubtedly Galadriel would need to be played by a very
beautiful woman. THe only issue is, who plays Arwen, the fav leading lady
from Titanic?

Henstridge is a decent suggestion. But Michelle Pfiefer is an excellent idea
-- great suggestion. Henstridge is more likely, as she's a lot less
expensive (if we want to think realistically, as opposed to fantasy casting).

Not bad -- a touch otherworldly, all right. And Emma Thompson, too --
who said she's too old? She's younger than a lot of the other
suggestions. But there's one great actress I and others, notably Bill
Hicklin, have been suggesting for a while -- Catherine Deneuve!

She's got the looks, the poise (though with plenty of sex appeal),
the ageless, otherworldly air, the voice (why not a touch of
accent?), the lot. A bit short, maybe, but nothing a camera angle or
two can't fix.

Cheers,

Mike

Catherine D. is just way too old - she's in her 50's!! She was beautiful as a
young woman, but even then I think she lacked the depth to play an Elf-Queen.
Galadriel must be played by a YOUNG woman - she was represented by Tolkien as a
woman in her prime, not as an aging, slightly plump woman in her 50's, which
Catherine D. is now (although I grant you she still has a lovely face).

Not a bad call now I think about it. Claire Danes is the one,
although my spelling of it isn't to be trusted. But yeh, Danes and Uma
Thurman are along the lines of my ideas of elven women, and Pfeiffer too
I suppose.

And unemployed in few weeks, so there is a fair chance she will be in the

Galadriel (or maybe Eowyn) should be portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar
(Buffy the Vampire Slayer for those who've been in Moria for the last two
years) with her hair having more bleach than my socks and her near perfect
porcelain face all Elven and radiant. This won't come to pass, but its neat
to hope. Whomever is chosen should obviously not be some over tan Hollywood
hype harpy. I can see it now, MTV news... "Carmen Electra announced to play
Galadriel in upcoming movies based on obscure English novels."
The only drawback is SMG may not look old enough for either part, at
least not without proper "weathering" maybe.

the best in the world I'm afraid their Swiss Army Knife-type-like-weapons just got
recalled for exploding for no apparent reason...

Force you beat can with the Flame Imperishable, that wieldeth the queen and
all the ISTARI. Though thy irreverence is most amusing thou hadst better
repent, or struck down thou shalt be by the Most Tacky Chartreuse Melanine

Force you beat cannot, because force in everything you see is.. Even in Flame
Imperishable Force there is...ummmmm...Force in you, force in me there
is...ummmmmmm....Force make can your Flame go non active (not very Yodish but
hey)..ummmmm..So better you give up..before Force hurts you and that Flame of
yours.....to use the Force train and work hard you must...ehummmmm...yeas, work hard you
must..if you wish teach you I can..(but there is this little matter of leaving your Queen
and come working for me)...What thy answer be noble Sir???

To put it in another way: Join me or I will destroy your Queen, you and will brake the
fuel pipeline to your Flame. And we all know that Flames need fuel (in this case the
Force), and I happen to control the source of that fuel...!!

You are mixing up the facts my noble Sir! The Force is much older, only no one spoke of it before
Star Wars. What you say is only a matter of registration in the books, The Flame was spoken of
earlier, but if there was no Force there would be no Flame. Force holds the whole universe
together (kindda!) and so the Flame too.

The Flame I can destroy, and I shall not back away, I have come seeking retribution, and
RETRIBUTION I SHALL HAVE!!!

Your might? Go ahead, make my day, BUT I SHALL NOT BACK OFF UNTIL YOUR QUEEN HAS GIVEN ME

HA! Prove it! Those are only words, and well, words can only make me go
into a corner and cry by myself for hours (see sig) , but deeds, ay, deeds
are different! So if she would be so kind to prove that statement of yours
I would be much obliged!
