In my opinion, books on the History of Middle Earth are good if you are a
literature student or expert who wants to know more about Tolkien's
creative process which led to the birth and development of Middle Earth
and eventually ended up in The Lord of the Rings. But for a pleasure
reader they are anecdotical and they do not add too much to the story as
told in The Silmarillion, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Moreover,
there are a lot of discrepancies among the "old" (and of course
unfinished) story and the definitive one that would make any reader
confused and disappointed, unless he/she was an expert in Tolkien. This
is just a common Tolkien's reader's point of view. I'm not an expert in
literature.

I disagree with that.I´m a common Tolkien reader, and, after reading many
of his books,i think that discovering the way the world of JRR was
thinked of and created,it´s at least as interesting as the own stories.

Well, they make me feel curious and excited, not dissapointed.
