Well to answer the question about the One Ring's full set of
powers I must refer to the Treasures of Middle-Earth. I am fairly new
here and I do not know how well the MERP roleplaying game (also RM)
along with its add-ons are thought of BUT the Treasures of Middle-earth
book was VERY extensively researched and even has references to each of
the books that contains the item in question - now translated into
general terms - the One Rings powers are:

#1) It augments/enhances tohe extreme the capacities of ites current
user.
For example: it would have made Samwise the greatest of all
gardeners
It would have made Boromir an ittesistible leader of men and so on.

#2) Invisibility which is not broken even in combat, because the Ring
draws the wielder deeply into the wraith world; this makes him
invisible tooall earthly eyes. but brilliantly vbisible to those at
home in the wraith world (ie the Nazgul) also the wearer gains the
ability to see those things which are invisible.

#3) Sense enhancement, hearing and smell become VERY acute, and sight
extends into the invisible realm BUT bision of objects in the material
world is blurred. Also the bearer can see powerful magical and
spititual forces from a far distance.

#4) Greatly lessens the effects of again, increasing a person's life
almost indefinaitely; however, the wear is also gradually transformed
into a creature of darkness (eg Gollum), and finally will become a
wraith - this effect happens whether the ring is worm or just under
one's possession. When the bearer totally fades - he becomes a
creature under the Dark Lord's rule.

#5) Permits the bearer to control or resist any item made with the
Ring's help, such as the traps of Barad-dur

#6) The Ring may ne be destroyed in any fashin except by the fires in
which it was forged, those of the volcano Mount Doom; if the One Ring
is destroyed, all the other Rings become powerless, and Sauron and his
Nazgul become forever impotent wraiths.

In addition the following powers may be used by someone who has
'mastered' the ring - in other words they have a strong enough will to
tame it (temporarily):

#7) Multipies a magician's power 18-fold (in MERP or RM terms a x18
power point multiplyer)

#8) Spells may be cast at 3x their normal range OR at any target that
the wearer can see, even with the aid of a device (such as the
Palantiri)

#9) May control all the wearers of the Great Rings of Power (except
for the Elven Rings) regardless of range or any other circumstances.
Also the bearer may either enslave the wearers of reveal and twist
everything that is done with the powers of the other Rings.

#10) Bearer may exert awesome powers of command and control especially
over evil creatures who instinctively fear the Ring; evil creatures
invaribly display immense fear of the Ring, even withou knowing what it
is; Frodo gained control over this faculty just before the moment he
lost his own will and Gollum caused the Ring's destruction.
