Has anyone heard anything regarding the imminent release of a Balrog
statuette from WETA/Sideshow?

Sssssssssssssssssh! I hope Pseudo the Anonymous Roghater does not read
this. He'll be angry for days, and act out his rage by chasing after
humans in the North Sea, as is his wont.

I am sorry Timbeaux. I immediately took the opportunity of your post to
annoy the afore mentioned Pseudo.(We have a longstanding flamewar going as
he once attacked me in the North Sea).

I wasn't thinking this is rather impolite towards you, because I thought
someone who could answer your question would do so anyway and that way you
would not mind my post. As obviously no one does, I suppose people are not
sure what you are talking about. I don't even know what WETA/Sideshow is.
But I would love to have a statuette like that (if only to send to a certain
jellyrog called Pseudo).

Keep on posting! But preferably not on top of someone else's message, as
that bothers some posters. Are you French? We could do with a French poster,
not having any as yet that I know. Even if you are not, you are very welcome
to!

Cheers,

Henriette

No harm no foul! I've actually gotten a good laugh out of it now, but at
the time, I was simply confused. WETA is the NZ based fx company that did
most of the effects work for Jackson's LOTR, and Sideshow is the CA partner
putting out all of the statuettes from the film. If you enjoyed the movie,
I'd suggest taking a look at the website
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/lotr_home.html as they have some really cool
stuff, and most actually sculpted by the fx artists that worked on the film.
Pretty neat in my book. At any rate, they will be producing a Balrog
statuette, based on the design used in the film, in the near future, but
little word is out on when said piece will be available. I'm just digging.

Am I French? Alas, no. I am a Californian. I was born and raised in
California, and here I have lived most of my life up to this point. I
currently reside 20 miles east of San Francisco, where I also have my own
studio, as I am a commercial sculptor. Sorry to disappoint all of those
hoping for a French contributor here, but hopefully I'll be able to make up
the deficit in other ways. Where are you from, Henriette?

Regards,
Tim

Thank you for being a good sport.

That is great! Without doubt it will stir up the wings-vs. no wings debate,
which gives most of us a lot of pleasure and some of us some annoyance.

But then you do have a French nickname! I don't know about "all of those hoping
for a French contributor", it is just something I would like for balance,
someone from the south of Europe. But it will not be held against you in any
way:) Aren't you lucky to live near San Francisco, except for the likelihood of
earthquakes. I have a good friend in Bolinas, CA who is also an artist(painter).
I went to see her 3 years ago. Never having been outside of Europe (I am from
The Netherlands), I could not believe my eyes. I could get very lyrical here
about the surroundings of S. Francisco, but I will only mention the free flying
wild pelicans and kolibri's and vultures which I *loved*. And we had a
shark-warning. Having only fishess, jellyfish and a nasty jellyrog called Pseudo
in the North Sea:) (apart from Ulmo and radio-active waste), this was ofcourse
exciting.

No, merely unenlightened.

Do Balrogs have wings?

Now he's an infidel to about half of us. :)

Aha! Since my unenlightened post, I have taken it upon myself to investigate
the great og of the Balrog's wings. Henceforth, my infidelitiness is all
the more in question.

I plead on the part of all citizens of Russia and
denizens of Moscow in particular.

Have you ever heard of a giant ugly statue of
Peter the Great by one Tsereteli right in the heart
of Moscow? No? Then it's OK, you'll still have
the joy of fainting.

WE NEED A GIANT STATUE OF A BALROG to pit
him against Tsereteli!!!

Any low-cost suggestions?

Pin wings on Lomonosov's University (if it's still called that)

I could sculpt such a thang, perhaps out of bead styrofoam, or even balsa
foam and cover it in urethane, but how do we convey the winglike shadow, or
shadowlike wings?
