The actor playing Benjy is never identified in the credits, but my
guess is that it's Kane Richotte, who has appeared in Yes, Dear and a
movie called "Biglove," but doesn't have an entry in IMDb. All the
other unidentified male acting credits are for older actors.
Kane has the potential to keep afti viewers interested, but I'm gonna
miss Max a lot.
Mark
It's definitely Kane Richotte. I posted some pictures of him from Yes, Dear
early last month.
As well as the pilot of Monk last season.
"Biglove" was a 10 minute film I saw on Sundance Channel (see one of my
"Saturday night movies" posts for details on that). Maybe the shortness of
it didn't warrant an IMDB entry by anyone. Here's what I said then on
November 16 of last year:
Big Love: A 10 minute short film on Sundance that I managed to snag while
taping Straight Right. Stars what seems like your typical loving family of
four - yet there seems to be something less typical about them. You
discover what that is at the end of the short (I won't give too much away
even though it is a short). Although of note is the young actor that played
the son - a preteen Kane Ritchotte.- who as we have recently come to know
was Max Morrow's predecessor on Monk.
And I am not sure if it's spelled "Richotte" or "Ritchotte" - I have it in
the above mentioned article in the latter.

His name was in the opening credits spelled that way. And IMDb.
Kane played Benjy in the pilot episode of "Monk".
When "Monk" moved to Toronto for filming, they took the stars with them
but cast everyone else locally. Including Benjy. Now that they are
back in Hollywood, they returned to the original Benjy.

I wonder if any other character in a TV series has had an alter-ego
which bounced back and forth more than once in the lifetime of the
series?
Sorry to misspell Kane's name, but I'm not the only one. A Google
search shows 13 references to Richotte and 11 to Ritchotte. I wonder
if Kane sometimes gets confused himself. :)
Mark
Thanks for letting us know Mark. I only hope the decision to not move
with the production was made by Max and his family, and not the shows
producers.

I will too.

On Roseanne, The oldest daughter, Becky, was played by Lucy Gorenson
(i may have misspelled that). When Lucy left the show to attend
college she was replaced by Sarah Chalke (I may have misspelled that,
too). After a couple of seasons Lucy returned to the role of Becky.
From then on, Sarah would turn up in various roles every so often and
Roseanne would look at her and say, "Don't I know you from somewhere?"
That could make for a funny, if surreal, plot on Monk, where the
fastidious Mr. Monk is confronted with both Max and Kane. If he is
crazy with anxiety over the vegetables touching the potatoes on his
dinner plate, imagine his attempts to keep the two Benjys in their
proper places!
