I've been following the various threads on the King brothers here
since the case came up. I hope you can all tolerate another of topic
post here. The passionate responses from many of you, indeed, the
indignation many of us feel comes out of human compassion.

We all know justice was not done. I have been sick to my soul for days
over this injustice. All I could do was get depressed and tremble with
anger sometimes, and yes.. even cry. I suppose many of us have felt
the same way.

I don't know why this affected me this much, it is not as if child
suffering is new. But it HAS affected me, and I've been wondering what
I can do.

luckily, some nice, impassioned folks at the Courttv.com forum for the
King Brothers also feel the same and the are doing something about it.
They have gathered many addresses for Florida officials, including
local Pensacola officials, and there is even a defense fund started.

I shall write letters, to the Pensacola journal, indeed, to anyone who
will listen. I am sensing a sort of movement starting, even the news
shows have started to pick up all the twisted details of this case.

these addresses were compiled by various people on the courttv.com
forum for the King Brothers, one of the posters even got the address
for their Defense Fund, I am not certain why Derick's name is spelled
differently that it is in other places. I've left in a few comments
from the original posts.

I know I will write a few letters, and I shall try to send some cards
or notes to the boys themselves, hopefully they will receive them, and
hopefully they
will bring some small bit of light into their world.

In the meantime I keep praying for justice.

Thank You all for your time.

Here are the addresses:(seems like the the defense fund is the better
bet, the inmate trust fund seems more like an allowance type of thing,
and there is that stupid $2 daily charge... but they have no one to
give them anything so... why not?)

SCAM ARTIST.... This person has never posted here to the best of my
knowledge and is asking for $2.00 which seems like a low amount but what
if everybody gave the money?

It looks realistic because other real addresses are mixed in with this
as well as the story this person is hoping would appeal to you.

Don't be fooled by another online con.

The address is not verified at this point and my first thinking here is
scam!!!!

I don't believe so. How would a person spoof the address of:

Escambia County Jail, Inmate Trust Fund
PO Box 17789
Pensacola, Florida 32522

Unless this guy is operating his con-artist business from within the jail
itself...

Also note that he didn't ask for $2.00, he stated that if people send money to
the Inmate Trust Fund that the state would remove $2.00 of it per day as a
housing fee (whereby they would ask for nothing if there were no money in the
fund). Rediculous if you ask me, our tax money already pays for their "housing".
I hope that someday an innocent person who has been in jail for years but has had
a trust fund in his name the entire time (from people who knew he was innocent)
is eventually released and sues the state for taking money from the fund that
whole time when he wasn't even guilty.

Many states pay inmates for doing work, like making license plates, but then charge
them for "room and board." And the pay is something like one dollar an hour.

I feel the same way you do. Actually trying to help instead of just
expressing anger is a positive move. Thanks for this info.

Here is something else I just noticed upon going back to that post:

€€€All money must be money order or cash (no checks) Make money

orders out to : Inmate Trust Fund c/o Alex and Derick King or Alex King
or Derick King (whoever you want to receive it)

C'MON FOLKS:
When was the last time someone told you to send CASH in the mail? No
checks?, give me a break!!

They'll take your money orders too because it can be cashed a lot easier
than checks.

Don't fall for this bogus trust fund... the alarm bells should be going
off when someone tells you NO CHECKS, SEND CASH

Like I said, there is more than one address listed for this story to
make it appear more realistic.

The address is listed as Bank of Pensacola under the name Alex and
Derick King but it says ATTENTION: Alicia Steel Account #050016

The question comes to mind, who the hell is Alicia Steel?

Anyone can open an account for anyone under their name and make it an
account under their name too as the trustee. The trustee doesn't need to
have the other parties present to withdraw the funds.

Something doesn't seem right and I would bet that this was done so
cleverly it appears to be legit but the person doing this is hoping lots
of people fall for this.

You even thought the money goes directly to the jail... LOOK AGAIN:

Again this is a scam and there's no doubt in my mind this will appeal to
a lot of suckers out there, the question is, "who will fall for it?"

The jail is not where the money is being directed to.... here is what
the poster wrote again concerning the money and the PO BOX address to
send your money.

Alarm bells should be going off on this post!!!!!! Don't be fall for
this people!!!!

If you really want to send money, you can always confirm this account with
the bank itself. I personally wouldn't send anything directly to the jail.
Except cards or letters of course.

Not to mention the fact that LFiggy is a known poster here. A quick search
of Google archives shows about 90 posts to this newsgroup in 2000 and 2001.
I can't vouch for the legitimacy of the addresses and funds he mentions, but
I can vouch for his recognition here. But it's been a while, Fig ... where
ya been?

no sir...

I have not posted here in a very long time, but I did on occasion long
ago... I don't see Likem's name here, but perhaps he'd remember me...
( I was never a full time poster)

I can't blame you for thinking "scam artist" as such types abound on
the net, particularly in news groups. I got these addresses from the
King Brother's Forum at www.courttv.com where many people believe in
their cause. The addresses are legitimate, as far as I know. And if
you have doubts about them, and have an interest, you could contact
either the Bank of Pensacola or the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola
(no, I'm sorry their numbers weren't posted), but I believe Alex's
Attorney number is listed.

I can't blame you if you do not wish to donate, perhaps you can write
letters to an official.

I can't help what you think, nor can I prove my sincerity merely by
typing words out on this screen... but if you can find it within
yourself to merely write a letter to an official, or a newspaper, or
write to an editor about this travesty of justice... well that is what
this is all about.

so if it makes you feel better, ignore the Defense Fund, and the other
one, but I would implore you to do write a letter or an email, it
might make a difference, it may not. Right now, I just don't want
these lads to be forgotten.

thank you

Easy. Put "Mickey Mouse" on a letter with your address and have a friend
send it. It'll get to you and the mail system won't really care. Having spent
some time working with the post office (during Christmas season) I can vouch
for the fact that the last thing on a workers' mind is figuring out which
letters have real names and which don't. The only person who might notice is
the residential carrier, but in most cases it's easy enough to explain away to
him, even if he does ask. I mean "I work from home." or "I am head of that
trust." will be enough to satisfy most postal carriers. For the most part, they
are very busy and have deadlines to meet and won't give a "funny" address a
second thought. How often have you gotten mail that doesn't have your name
and/or address on it? Probably more than once.

Look, VOP, a smart person will check it out before donating. However, the
same can be said for condemning it. You haven't checked it out thoroughly
yourself, or you wouldn't have "questions" coming to mind. You'd know the
answers. Many legitimate trust funds have adresses that do not match the name
of the trust fund or the bank account trustee. If something looks funky, it may
well be, but it still could be legit. If it is legit, think about what you are
doing to a person who needs help. Why don't you check it out and then make up
your mind?
I just laugh so hard when people do this. "You aren't checking it out, you
are so stupid!" says the guy who hasn't checked it out himself. Their fath is
no more unfounded than your doubt.

I suppose you're right. If it weren't a PO Box it may arise more suspicion maybe,
someone's house wouldn't very well be the County Jail. PO Boxes are so phoney
though.
