Someone asked about Ryan Phillipe a couple days ago. He was on One Life
to Live on ABC about two years ago. He played a gay teen, going through
the coming out process. I read he left because he was uncomfortable with
the role.

He was also on a tv miniseries about a year ago.

He also appeared in a made for TV movie about Killer Bees that was on
sometime last year. He certainly didnot look as good in that as he did in
White Squall. Also, I had read an article with him in the Philadelphia
Gay News in which he didn't express any concerns over his role. I guess
he changed his mind.

Hi! I was SO confused in "White Squall"... which one was Ryan... did he
have a semi-shaved hair cut... like a crew cut type (gosh! I can't
explain haircuts)! :)
Thanks!

Rachel :)

RYAN played Gil Martin, the supernaturally beautiful guy with a short
blond buzzcut. His brother had died in a fall out of the beech tree in
the back yard while his parents were (as usual) fighting. He had
acrophobia and pissed his pants and all over Skipper in the scene where
he had to climb.

He helped Chuck and Frank to tutor Dean. He aroused Chuck from a
sexcapade with a Dutch goddess so they could help Frank, who got drunk
after his dad humiliated him,

And of course he was the central focus of the Squall
episode--instead of bugging out he went back to get his bro's picture,
and then it was too late. Despite Chuck Gieg's (SCOTT WOLF) best efforts
to get him out, he was stuck in the ship and the camera kept going back
to him as the water kept rising. He was one of the four killed (the
others were Dean (ERIC MICHAEL COLE), Skipper's wife, and the cook.

the flags of ecstacy. Alas, he, like a thousand white angels separating
on the road, goes off beyond the mountain!--Arthur Rimbaud, Genie, Memoire

In a previous article, rya...@aol.com (RyanJMc) says:

That he left uncomfortable with the role because the character was gay,
if that's what you're saying, seems unlikely since (see below) he
apparently has made a film with Greg Araki, perhaps the wildest boldest
gay-film maker of this time.

Here's some info I got in email about our friend Ryan from the WWW:

RYAN PHILLIPPE portrays compassionate and timid Gil Martin, a young
recruit who learns to overcome his fears as a member of the crew of the
"Albatross." On the small screen, Ryan began his career with a starring role
on
ABC's "One Life To Live," before moving on to NBC's "Lake Success." He
followed that with a starring role in a FOX movie-of-the-Week "Natural
Enemies," and a CBS pilot called "Time Well Spent." Ryan also starred in
"Nowhere," a Greg Araki movie which is set to be released this spring.

There is a short bio on all the actors and there are also a few pics. And
for any of you with a movie player on your PC, they have a copy of the
trailer (both video and audio only clips) to download.

I saw the film again and Ryan's performance seemed all the more
convincing, nuanced, accomplished. Jason Marsden also deserves to be
singled out for special mention. They were all very good and very
separate, distinct, believable characters. The difficulty we've had in
distringuishing them on first viewing is due to the fact that there are
so many of them doing so much.
