Yesterday, I attended the L.A. Premiere of the movie adaptation of the
children's novel, "Hoot". The majority of the cast was there,
including stars Logan Lerman and Cody Linley, and Dean Collins, who
also has a nice size roll in the movie. I recognized few stars not
associated with the film in attendance, except for Michael Chiklis and
Matthew Underwood.

I went with a friend and her 13 year old daughter, who had both read
the book, and the girl's friend, who had not. The friend and I both
enjoyed the movie. It was nice, mildly amusing, though predictable.
Those who had read the book were disappointed, though they said it was
a faithful adaptation. The acting was good, but not memorable. I
think fans of the above actors will enjoy catching it on DVD. Cody
Linley mentioned that he will be on an upcoming episode of "Hannah
Montana".

I had tried to see the movie Thursday in Irvine, but there was a
mix-up, and I was just in time for the Q & A, and a short set by Jimmy
Buffett, who produced, acted in, and did some music for the soundtrack.
Cody said they didn't work directly with the owls (as they are an
endangered species. They did meet the 3 owls used during the
production, and one was crazy or bizarre or something, and he wasn't
comfortable around that one. Logan mentioned that he wasn't much of a
nature boy, but Cody said he grew up running around outdoors.

Sorry, nothing more profound to say.

Thanks for the report...very interesting.

I wonder how this movie will do at the box office? It seems very gentle and
low-key, compared to most of the movies aimed at the middle-school age group.
It's too bad that fans of the book were disappointed, although I think
that's usually the case when you read the book version first.

I looked for pictures, and there are a couple of Dean Collins from the
after-movie party, but with the obtrusive watermark, at
editorial.gettyimages.com. WireImage has a couple of pictures from a
different premiere earlier this month, of a shaggy-haired Logan Lerman, and
Cody Linley.

Not to worry - that was plenty, probably more profound than a lot of what
has been said here recently.

I am glad to hear that you got to see it, if for no other reason than to
reassure me that I and the rest of us will get to soon. The cast plus your
review really makes it sound like it is something to look forward to.

A friend said he saw the trailer recently so it's expected here soon in
north central Florida.

Dumb predictable movie but very watchable cast. Worth checking out on DVD
but probably not worth a full price theater ticket.
