After hanging together one night they're talking in the car about Eric's
relationship with his neighbor. Eric says they're kind of good friends but not
really going together and then said he was kind of confused about his
relationship with her. Joey then says it's ok to be confused about such things
and tells Eric he's not weird. Eric starts to go on talking when Joey quickly
leans over and kisses him full on the mouth!
Eric freaked out and starts babbling and it got pretty wacky as Joey smiles and
said he was getting signals that Eric was gay and that they had been dating all
along. It was great because Eric finally got over being freaked out and they
ended up being friends at the end. It was funny because in the end everybody
but Eric it seemed could tell that Joey was gay.
I think maybe Joey might end up on the show more in the future. It was cool to
see Joey play a gay kid who wasn't all freaking suicidal and actually was
really cool about it and had no problems at all with who he was. TV shows
usually seem to want to make all gay kids into some sort of troubled souls.
Anyway, I had heard rumors about what was going to happen, but when it
DID happen, OH MY GOODNESS. I couldn't believe it was true. It was
awesome. A GREAT episode. I've only watched one other episode of
this show, and it was pretty funny. I guess I'm going to become a
regular viewer, now. Such good writing and positive portrayal
deserves support.
Wasn't there a thread awhile back, though, which talked about the
actors in the show being much older than their characters? I got a
reply to my Sunday TV Report which indicates that the ages are close
to real. Help, anyone?
Thanks, Mark, for the good post about this.

You have to wonder if Joey and Topher teased each other about getting
in some "private rehearsal time." Or after filming the scene, "Wait,
I'm not sure if I really captured the right feeling. Maybe we should
do another take."
As for the series as a whole, I watched the premiere, which didn't
impress me all that much. It seems to be picking up, though, as
measured by my less extensive use of the fast-forward button while
watching it on tape.... Another interesting factoid: two of the
working titles for the project pilot were taken from lyrics by The
Who: "The Kids Are Alright" and "Teenage Wasteland." Other working
titles: "Reeling in the Years" and "Feelin' All Right."

I agree, I think that was a great show, especially the way they handled JGL's
charactor..hope to see more of him on the show!!
I agree totally. It did not disappoint! :-)

I agree. I watch the show anyway, but I thought they handled that
storyline particularly well.

I believe the thread talked about how they were playing high school
seniors, but none of them were high school age. I think they look their
age, more so than the "Dawson's Creek" guys. Maybe it's just me.
I was wondering how old Topher Grace (Eric, the main character) is,
because someone said he's older than his character. I think he does a
great job playing Eric. His facial expressions and reactions are
fantastic.

I agree. From watching the scene a couple of times, you can't tell how
much contact there was, but it definitely looks like there was contact.
Conversely, in last season's finale of "3rd Rock" (the one where Tommy is
a gourmet chef) August and Tommy kiss passionately, but it looks like he
is kissing her shoulder instead of her mouth. :-) They have kissed before
on the show, though.

Hehe, yeah it's funny to think what was going on behind the scenes. You
have to give Joey and Topher credit for doing a scene like that, though,
because it probably wasn't easy for either of them.
Only one of the male actors on That 70's Show is under 20, but they're not
that much older. Here's a post I sent on September 8:
"Entertainment Weekly answers the question about the ages of the actors
playing the teens on That 70's Show. Topher Grace, who plays Eric,
is 20. Ashton Kutcher, who plays Kelso, is 20. Wilmer Valderrama,
who plays Fez, is 18. Danny Masterson, who plays Hyde, is 22.
"The girls are closer to their characters' ages: Mila Kunis, who plays
Jackie, is 15, and Laura Prepon, who plays Donna, is 18."

I seldom watch TV, but I really like this show. Sadly I missed this
week's episode. Although the guys are "old" I find them really believable
as high school students, especially Topher Grace. And I don't care how old
Ashton
Kutcher (who was Chris Kutcher when he was growing up here in my neck of
the woods) is, he is one FINE specimen!
