It was shocking, because he had just taken a leave of absence a couple
of weeks ago, which was scheduled to run up to 6 months, while he
recuperated further from surgery to remove a mass from his brain.
I found myself agreeing with Ebert more than with Siskel (and
disagreeing with both of them a lot!). But still, I enjoyed watching
Siskel's reviews on "S&E" and reading his comments in TV Guide.
He'll be missed.

It's a tough business, to be responsible for so many opinions and have
to fight so many arguments about them. But Gene Siskel always seemed
like he loved his work. In fact, his rush back to work after his
surgery showed how much he really did love it. "Siskel and Ebert"
redefined movie criticism and in the process, changed a lot about
movies. I'm really going to miss him.
