sounded IDENTICLE and bring back 70's rock / pop performing kids!

The Wikipedia article shows how YouTube and MySpace are playing such a
big part in developing new careers. Justin put his own videos online
where he was discovered by a promotion company in Toronto, and that led
to negotiations and a contract with Usher, who also began his career at
a very young age.
Justin's been able to work his way around a deep prejudice today
against young stars in commercial radio, especially boy stars. Many of
the biggest top 40 radio stations are reluctant to play "One Time" even
though it is outselling and out-requesting a lot of other hits.
They'll play Miley and Taylor Swift every hour, but Justin gets
practically nothing. It's interesting that a lot of these same
stations are signing him up for their Christmas concerts.

a recent TODAY. If Beiber as Disney connected he'd probably get a tv
show and be played enough on that Disney radio show.
I don't know that he sings but Wizards Jake Austin doesn't seem to be
getting much hype. Not on teen magazine covers. Most of the newer
episodes mostly have the girl and older boy. If you squint your eyes
Jake looks like J.T.T.

Heh, I don't think there is "a lot of AFTI" these days at all. :)
Anyway, I never heard of Justin until this summer. I guess his videos
had been online for quite a while before then, but it wasn't til
recently that he really got noticed.
I wish Jake was getting his name around more often, but on the TV show
he has never really stood out above his older brother and sister. He
had some hype around "Hotel for Dogs." I love his homemade videos on
YouTube and jaketaustin.com. But I agree, he needs more publicity!

Idol; he could make the top 4 just on his pretty boy looks alone! But
is he a better singer than Archuleta? Not a chance.
It's funny, when I first saw him on TV I thought it was one of the
Degrassi kids (KC Guthrie). Must be the haircut.
Anyways, Justin is supposed to be on some talk shows this month.
Let's see if his voice has changed any.

So after watching some of his stuff on You Tube, I am convinced that
he is making it on his looks alone. His songs are generic at best.
It's actually embarrasing to see all those teenage girls screaming
like they are watching the next coming of Jesse McCartney.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but...
His songs are doing pretty very nicely on the radio stations that are
playing them, and they aren't broadcasting pictures while he sings. So
somebody likes the songs on their own merit!
I think "One Time" is a good pop song. Justin is definitely a good
looking kid, but he also has a lot of personality and the videos show
he knows how to perform. Yeah, we'll forget it in a year, but there's
a possibility that he could go on to the next level of stardom, like
his mentor Usher, or his predecessors Hanson.

OK, I'd never even heard of this kid until this thread. (In the old days,
AFTI would have been on top of this much earlier!) But I suppose if I can
pay attention to Norwegian and Belgian singers, I ought to give an all-
American kid a chance.
Well, first off, there's no denying his looks. Oh man. But his singing
really isn't all that remarkable. And his "discoverers" seem to be moving
him more toward rap and R&B, and I personally detest the stranglehold that
rap and R&B have on American pop music.
I've spent the past couple months mesmerized by two other boys with guitars
slung over their shoulders-- Jurgen Dahl Moe and Ulrik Munther-- and I
would much prefer that either of those two became international singing
sensations before this Justin kid.
But, I suppose if he's gonna become famous anyway, I may as well watch. :-)

He wasn't on TV at 12 like Aron Carter and Billy Gillman, he was 14 or
nearly 15 when that happened. I can't listen to web music or see
youtube but will get his CD if my Best Buy has it. I didn't like any
of Hanson's CDs after the first one and I migt not like anything on
Justin's first. BTW, down with Rap and Hip Hop. I like some 70's
R&B.

Exactly. He seems to hesitate sometimes in the middle of a verse.
Maybe he's watching too much CSI Miami cuz they all talk like that.

That's my biggest pet peeve with Justin's music. It's not even close
to rock and roll or alternative. You have to wonder if he has even
heard of cutting edge bands like Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan, or The
Academy Is. He's Canadian, does he not watch Degrassi at all?
The only song of Justin's that I can truly say I enjoy is the acoustic
version of Lonely Girl. All the rest of the stuff I have heard him
sing is that hip hop garbage.

Jorgen (fixed the spelling) is an amazing talent for his age. And he
enjoys singing country music; how often do you see that outside of the
USA?
Still trying to find more English speaking music from Ulrik, but he's
talented as well.
To wrap this up, I'm not trying to totally slam on JB, but I'm
obviously not part of his target audience. The teenage girls will
swoon over him until he gets his first whisker on his chin, then they
will drop him like a lead balloon.

Hanson still has fans who sell out their concerts and wait for hours so
they can get the best seats. There'll never be another MMMBop, but I
think they're some of the most musically talented of the teen idol
singers in the past 15 years and I do like listening to their new songs
too.

My World (out Nov. 17), Justin Bieber stopped by the Nickelodeon sitcom
True Jackson, VP for a guest spot on the show�s season premiere (airing
Nov. 14 at 8:30 ET/PT).
In the EW exclusive clip below, teen fashion exec True (Keke Palmer) and
friends Lulu (Ashley Argota) and Ryan (Matt Shively) sneak into a studio to
spy on the singer while he lays down an acoustic take on his hit single
�One Time.�
Bieber�s music might be engineered to light up the squeal cortex of teen
girls� brains, but I�ve got to say, �One Time� is one fine piece of pop.
And this bare-bones version (which he�s brought out for a few other
promotional gigs) gives the 15-year-old a chance to show off a softer, less
micro-processed side of his sound. Not to mention the fact that the major-
fourth harmonies� oh, screw it. I like the song, OK? Watch the clip after

That was a really nice acoustic version of the song. Despite what the
article says, I thought I heard quite a bit of Auto-Tune vocal
enhancing going on, which I think sounds kinda cool by itself, but
always leaves me wondering if the singer can really carry a tune.

Great song, and it shows off Ulrik's total vocal range. If only his
name were something like Kyle and he was from New York, then he could
be the next star instead of this Justin poser.
Anyways, checked out more JB on You Tube. He seems to like MB-20,
that's what got him started at some local Stratford Idol thing. But
he totally butchered Edwin McCain's "I'll Be", which is a song that
Archie just owns as if he wrote it himself.

I've been following him on YouTube for more than a year now. His
account is http://www.youtube.com/user/kidrauhl. Looks like they've
deleted some of his earlier stuff.
He's been singing around Canada, mostly at his church, I think, for
some time. Somehow, perhaps from YouTube, he got the attention of
Usher, who brought him to Atlanta and produced first the single and
then the album. The rest, as they say, is history.

Not really, it seems like he did cover versions of whatever was
popular at the time.
His version of 3 a.m. from Matchbox 20 was decent. Not great, but
good enough to get him noticed. But his version of I'll Be was beyond
horrible. His voice is way too high for that song. It's a brooding,
melancholy song, not some Disney Jonas Bros puff piece.
Archuleta was about 14 when he sang I'll Be for some school talent
show, and he was amazing. I have yet to see or hear a better cover
version of the song. .

I guess his label think Justin's albums MUST be rap because they dare
not take a risk musically figuring Justin's target audience likes rap.
Is Billy Gilman still doing albums? I'd be surprised his would ever
be pop much less rap.
