With the recent disaster film, "Poseidon" being just that at the box
office, Wolfgang Petersen blames himself for several key scenes ending
up on the cutting room floor that perhaps made the original 1970s film
the success that it was.

Some scenes include Fergie (Stacy Ferguson of Black Eyed Peas, Kids
Incorporated, etc) romancing the Captain and Jimmy Bennett being shown
around the ship by the Captain, both of which storylines are touched
upon in the theater version when Fergie momentarily glances eyes
towards the captain and Bennett shares some of his knowledge of the
ship to the passengers after it capsizes. Also cut, were scenes of
Valentin (Freddy Rodríguez), who played a seemingly romantic teen
steward shockingly killed in the elevator shaft sequence.

In press kits released of "Poseidon", there are photos of Conor (Jimmy
Bennett) being toured around the ship.

Feeling these scenes (and many others involving Kurt Russell and
Richard Dreyfuss) were unimportant "drama" to the main "disaster" plot
of the film, they were cut out shortly before it's release to
concentrate more on the film's main plot's "action", which most fan's
feel the wave hit way too quickly in the movie, which actually runs
approximately 20 minutes shorter than the original 1970s version.

As preparations for the release of the DVD get underway, there is talk
that scenes taken out of the film may end up back into the film to
promote a better version in an "Extended DVD" release possibly adding
over 25 more minutes back into the film.

Originally, the movie was 125 minutes, cut down to 99 minutes for the
disaster to hit much quicker so not to "bore the audience" especially
the younger kids of today, who anxiously wait for the wave to hit.
(Didn't they realize cutting the younger cast members out of the film's
beginning was probably scenes the younger fans of today wanted to see,
given the popularity "Fergie" (formerly of "Kids Incorporated") has on
young fans of today? As well as boys seeing themselves on the ship
through the role of "Conor"?)

There is also talk questioning which scenes would be added into the
extended DVD version and which scenes would be just amongst the
"Deleted Scenes" features.

Hopefully, they will know what to do more with the DVD version of the
film than they did with the Theatrical release.

Look no further for an explanation on why you hear so many complaints about
a bix office "slump". Apparently movies these days are having quality
sacrificed to cator to a small sliver of the office with the attention span
of a mouse click. God forbid some people wait (gasp) 20 minutes to be
gratified.

Sooner or later they will figure out that most movie watchers aren't of the
eMpTyV/Playstation/channel surf short attention span mentality. And, even
more shocking, their money spends just the same.
