FLORISSANT, Missouri — A Walmart employee shot a man at the Florissant
Walmart Supercenter while people shopped Friday evening, a written
statement from police said. It happened around 10:45 p.m., minutes
before closing time.
Officers rushed to the superstore, near New Halls Ferry Road and
Lindberg Boulevard, to secure the scene and investigate the shooting.
After searching the store for potential suspects, police took the
Walmart employee into custody.
An officer with the Florissant Police Department working at the
superstore reported the shooting to dispatchers. The officer told
dispatchers he was at the front of the store with the victim, the
statement said. The officer tended to the victim's wounds and kept him
safe until other officers arrived.
The victim was shot multiple times in the legs, but the injuries were
not life threatening, the statement said.
"The suspect is currently in police custody along with a recovered
firearm," the statement from police said. "We can assure the public that
there is no ongoing threat to safety."
Police did not share a description of the suspect.
"Investigators are actively working on the case and updates will be
provided as more information becomes available," the statement said.
