The woman told family she accidentally put the child in the oven instead
of the crib
A Kansas City, Missouri, mother has been charged with child endangerment
after her infant died after being burned in an oven.
Police were dispatched to a home near 41st Street and Forest Avenue
shortly before 1:30 p.m. Friday where they found emergency crews
performing life-saving measures on an infant.
The baby girl was pronounced dead on the scene.
Detectives were called in for a suspicious death investigation immediately
due to the circumstances surrounding the infant's death.
The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office announced Saturday that Mariah
Thomas has been charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a
child, death of a child, in connection with the death of her 1-month-old.
Court documents show police were dispatched to the home on reports of a
non-breathing infant.
Documents state Thomas reportedly told family that she was putting the
child down for a nap and accidentally placed the infant in the oven
instead of her crib.
