SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Police arrested a man wanted in a deadly
shooting in downtown Springfield.

Elysha Bedell, 19, of Springfield, faces a first-degree murder charge in
the death of Chaviz Nguyen, 26, on November 14. Police also arrested two
other juveniles in the case. A judge issued no bond for Bedell.

The incident happened around 8:20 p.m. near College St. and Grant Ave.,
near the former Hollywood Theater. Police say the shots fired came from
a vehicle with Bedell. Nguyen died at the scene. A woman suffered
critical injuries from her gunshot wounds.

Investigators say the surviving victim in the crash told police she
noticed someone following them as she and Nguyen were going downtown to
a restaurant. Surveillance cameras across the paths of the vehicles
captured the sedan’s license plate.

Investigators say a juvenile in Bedell’s vehicle said the shooting was
related to an ongoing disturbance between Bedell and a friend of Nguyen.
Investigators say she told them that the dispute was over a past
homicide.

Detectives ask anyone with additional information about this incident to
contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an
anonymous report to Crime Stoppers at 417-869- TIPS (8477) or online at
p3tips.com.

This is Springfield’s 17th homicide investigation in 2023.
