I enjoyed reading the Record Journal letter "Unemployed" on Wednesday,
11/25/09, by Christopher Harran of Meriden, CT. Mr. Harran made a very
good point in his letter. I too would like to know why the closing of a
Cadillac auto dealership was more important than a major employer in the
City of Meriden, CT. who closed one of its facilities, and layed off
hunderds of workers at another. Doing this does have a very negative
impact on the city. It means less business for area stores and
restaurants. These workers were given a paycheck each week and Im sure
they spent a lot of their money in Meriden. Does anyone on the city
council care? Once these jobs are gone they may never come back again.
As I see it, Mayor Mike and the city council told us what they think of
this issue by their silence. Saying nothing on the matter shows how much
you care. With the way our economy is going we should do all we can to
keep jobs here and people working in our city. We soon will see just how
many more stores go out of business in our city because sales were down
for the Christmas shopping seaon. I hope the economy improves for the
new year of 2010 because 2009 was not a very good year at all for both

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said he believes it's reasonable to
expect "positive job growth" by spring of 2010 and that people should
have confidence about an improving economic climate. Tell that to all
the people who have no jobs and see what they think! There are also
people who have jobs but still dont make enough money to pay all their
bills!
Geithner also said that he thinks most people would say the economy
actually is strengthening now going into the end of the year 2009, but
that the key is to regain lost jobs. As I said in my last Record-Journal
letter, "Local Jobs" on Friday 12/4/09, "once these jobs are gone, they
may never come back again!" So just how does Geithner think we are going
to regain all these lost jobs? Some of these jobs were sent to other
countries where labor is cheap. Now that they are gone it will be very
hard to get them back again. By sending jobs to other countries we are
hurting the American Worker and our own economy. Lets get America
working again. Once people are working they will have a paycheck with
money to spend and the economy will improve for the year 2010. Happy New
