WORCESTER — A former city man was sentenced to three to four
years in state prison Friday after admitting to child sexual
assault charges in Worcester Superior Court.

Ervin Pizarro, 40, a 17-year barber who formerly operated a
Medfield barbershop, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two
separate child victims.

In one case, Pizarro pleaded guilty to child rape and indecent
assault and battery on a child under age 14.

In another case with a different victim, he pleaded guilty to
assault and battery on a child under age 14.

According to a statement of facts read into the record by
Assistant District Attorney Nathan Morse, one of the victims,
who was 8 or 9 when the abuse started, was assaulted
periodically for years and raped once.

In the second case, a victim of about 12 or 13 was touched on
their genitals on one occasion.

The child rape victim, who reported the assaults while in
college and is now an adult, gave an emotional statement in
court before sentencing.

The victim, referencing a 2017 trial in the case that led to a
hung jury, told a judge Pizarro lied repeatedly during that
proceeding.

“Nobody knew the darkness inside of him or how dangerous he
really is,” the victim said.

The victim indicated they believed there could be other past
victims and is "hopeful that by me coming forward, many others
will as well.”

The victim also said they believe Pizarro is a danger to
reoffend.

“Ervin Pizarro is a sexual predator who should be as far away
from society for as long as possible," they said. “His lack of
self-control will inevitably lead him to do this again.”

Morse noted that, after Pizarro was charged in the two cases in
Worcester Superior Court, he was charged in another sexual
assault case in Norfolk County in 2020.

In 2020, WBZ-TV reported that Pizarro had been running a
barbershop in Medfield at the time and that his arrest came as a
shock to patrons and parents.

Pizarro, formerly of Worcester and Uxbridge, has been in jail
since the Norfolk County arrest. He pleaded guilty to five
counts of assault and battery on a person age 14 or older last
month in Norfolk Superior Court, records show, and was sentenced
to three to four years in prison.

Pizarro’s sentences in both counties will run at the same time.
He was credited for the time he has served since his February
2020 arrest, meaning he is already more than two years into his
sentence.

Pizarro will be required to register as a sex offender and be on
probation for three years following his release. The terms of
probation in Norfolk County include that he not work as a
barber, electronic court records show.

Pizarro’s barber’s license in Massachusetts lapsed at the end of
2021 while he was in jail, state records show.

Other terms of probation include that Pizarro stay away from his
victims and undergo sexual offender evaluation and all
recommended treatment.

Maura Tansley, a lawyer for Pizarro, told Superior Court Judge
William Ritter that Pizarro will undergo treatment to address
“underlying issues” relevant to his crimes.

Ritter praised the man’s victims Friday for their continued
pursuit of justice.

“I’d like to acknowledge the courage, strength and perseverance
of the victims in this case, who have pursued it over multiple
occasions and for many years,” he said.
