Let's see if I can hazard a guess...

Obi-Wan is the apprentice...
Qui-Gon is the teacher of Obi-Wan
Yoda is their Master...

Did that make any sense? What I'm trying to say is that even though Yoda is
Obi-Wan's and Qui-Gon's master, Qui-Gon has the responsibility of making
sure that Obi-Wan keeps his nose clean. What kind of title would that be?
Oh well...

Just my $0.02.

Yoda... remember in ESB he says "Go to the Dagobah system...there you
will learn from Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed me"

I believe the technical term is "nanny." =)

I used to believe that Qui-Gon Jinn was his master, and Yoda took over
when Qui-Gon dies, but looking at the trailer made me think over that
again.
This is what came to my mind: Obi-Wan's performance does'nt look like a
student's to me, it seems to me, that he is already a Jedi-Knight,
trained by Yoda, an old Master, who sent the fresh knight off to
accompany a fresh Master, or maybe a candidate for the Master-title,
which happens to be Qui-Gon Jinn...

Reasonable and logical. No flaws to be found except perhaps that Jinn is
already Qui-Gon's last name. Qui-Gon would be his rank/title ie Ben
Kenobi becomes Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Remember the first trailer, when Anakin is introduced to Kenobi: "Anakin
Skywalker - meet Obi-Wan Kenobi" and not "...Ben Kenobi"!

I'm not saying that this theory is wrong. But there's no evidence FOR
it other than rampant speculation. If Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were titles,
we'd have heard of more Jedi called that. Yoda had no such title.
Neither did Anakin, or Luke for that matter. Ever hear of the maxim
that, all things being equal, the most simple explanation is usually
correct? It just seems so much simpler that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are
names rather than titles.

As further support that it is a name, in ANH Ben says : "I haven't gone by
the *name* of Obi-Wan since before you were born."
