How do you pronounce the name of Liam Neeson's character? Whenever my 3
year old son and I are looking at SW magazines and such we refer to him as
"the other Jedi." Can someone help me out? Thanks.

His name is "Qui-Gon Jinn" and I'm pretty sure it is pronounced 'Key-Gone
Gin'
Hope that helps. :)

It could be. I really don't know. Here in Canada some people pronounce Quebec
"Kwe-bec" and others say it "Ke-bec". Depends on where you are from I guess.

in that case it probably depends on whether French is your first language?
(It's only us non-educated English-speakers who pronounce it "Kwe-bec")

That would be "kee-gon" wouldn't it? (In French, that is.) Not "kwee-gon."

I gave up early on this one. A good friend of mine suggested "Q-tip" and I'll
go with that for now. Or, just plain IRISH JEDI!!!!!!!!!

This is how I've been pronouncing it too but another possibility is
'kweegan', run together as one word. Whatever it is I'm sure we'll hear it
in the movie unless nobody ever calls him by name, as happened with so many
other characters. He's a major character though so unless people always
refer to him as master I guess we'll know soon enough.

I've been wondering the same thing. I usually say

"kwee gone gin" (gin like the liquor)

but I heard someone on TV (Access Hollywood or ET?) say

"kwai gone gin"

Maybe George'll mention the name on 60 Minutes Sunday night.

<laugh> My boyfriend is one up on you-- he just calls him Liam
Neeson. <smile> I also like "The Irish Jedi." I think, though, that
it's "Kee-Gon Jinn." I mentioned that name at work the other night
and someone said it sounded like it would make a damn good martini.

This isn't about Qui-Gon Jinn, it's about the pronounciation of
another name that was giving me more trouble than the Irish Jedi. I
assume many of us saw George Lucas' little bit on "60 Minutes"
yesterday. Did you notice that they finally said Jar-Jar's name
aloud?! Glory be! I was happy to learn that I had been
mispronouncing it. My boyfriend and I both know just a little bit of
German, so we'd been pronouncing it "Yar-Yar." But it actually is
said "Jar-Jar," as in a Mason Jar, "J" as in "Jedi." I'm so happy
that I finally know how to pronounce that name.

And speaking of Jar-Jar, I have to disagree with everyone who said he
looks bad. I think he looks great. He certainly looks more realistic
than Yoda in ESB.

She pronounces it Qui (like tie) Gonn (gone) Gin (gin) just like they did in

Yep, that resolves it for me... she says it kind of quickly,
as though the two words Qui Gon were joined. It comes across as

Kwaigun

Of course, every character in episodes 4-6 pronounced Leia and Han
differently, so we'll see! ;-)
