Reminded me more of the grey council in B5...with chairs of course. A
council sitting around a table discussing things is fairly bog standard
practice though!

This bit did look like the imperial senate in those dodgy new Star Wars
films.

Don't forget the device used to bring the Time Lords back was a very
Star Gate looking device.

I was hanging out with the cool kids in rec.arts.drwho when
tnm-collectables got out a spraycan and scrawled the following:

The Master/Vader changing allegiance and attacking the emperor just as
he's about to kill the hero. (Though here it's the Master that can
shoot lightning with his hands.)

That says somehting about your lack of imagination, and frankly my inability
to remember an earlier classical reference.

Star Wars was not original in its plot. Every part of it had been done
before. The only original thing was the level execution. Lucas himself
described Star Wars as Cowboys and Indians in space.

Its you had any education and class, you'd be comparing every Dr Who scene
with the classics. There is no such thing as a truly original show any more.

As for you thinking all these refer exclusively to Star Wars, well, sadly
that just shows how limited your knowledge of literature is.

That's what Star Wars drew its inspiration from, but the specific
allusions to SW here were too obvious - even the android looked like a
bluish version of C3P0.

I have to say, it looked more like an old bomber than the Falcon.

Still in Jedi costumes.

Why? For the most part the writers pinching these scenes didn't, and
they took their inspiration from the most well-recognised pop culture
variants thereof. It's a non sequitur that because the Star Wars
cantina, for instance, is based on a Western saloon, therefore because
the cantina here is based on Star Wars, it is also based on a Western
saloon. The Greek myths themselves are just the versions we most
readily recognise of stories that were 'plagiarised' from their
ancestors with the addition of new imagery.

I don't think that each of those references could only refer to Star Wars.
The collection of them all in one episode of one show is rather suggestive.

No, because Apple never won theirs either. But then again unlike Gates,
Jobs & Wozniak never (alledgedly) bribed a judge for a million dollars in
cash.
Bill Gates will deny he did it too. Try to even Google "Look & Feel
lawsuit" theres no existant record of it ANYWHERE online.
Its amazing what money can make go away, eh?

You wont find many of us that still remember it. Actually you are the 1st
person other than myself whose ever heard of it.
And there was me thinking I was the only one who still remembered and held
it against him ;-)

Were you aware of the alledged bribe?

... and watching Dr Who confidential right now, RTD has mentioned "making
Wilf/Bernard Cribbens like Luke Skywalker" which kinda suggests that was in
his mind. Though the dambusters theme was playing in the background during
that scene on confidential, so who knows?

Of course. And were it not for Forbidden Planet, there'd be no Star
Trek....and likely not much, if any, modern day science fiction TV on
your telly. Roddenberry got the idea of Starfleet from that movie,
which in turn inspired his 'wagon train to the stars' concept. No Star
Trek and I reckon you could kiss goodbye to pretty much all that came
after it in the way of TV sci-fi. Three cheers for taking influence!

"Forbidden Planet" was pretty much Shakespeare's "The Tempest" in a

No "pretty much" about it Enzo, Forbidden Planet is exactly The Tempest.
