Okay, this may have been stated beforehand, but I just want to make sure it
is at least said at least once just in case.

I used to own a Star Wars screensaver program back in the mid-90's that
featured background information on the original characters from Episode 4
through 6. Some of you may have had this screensaver since it was packaged
into a Lucas Arts CD-ROM bundle set a few years later. (I had it on a five
disk set unfortunately. It took about thirty minutes to load the whole
program.)

Okay, on the saver that featured Vader and his concise biography, it was
stated that Vader was cast off into a lava flow near a volcano by Obi-wan.
That is why he wears the black warrior armor and cape and is disfigured
(just see Episodes 5 and 6 for the results of lava on skin. And I'm not
reffering to the popular body soap either.) Appartently, Palpatine (a.k.a.
Darth Sidious) saves Anakin from the lava before dying and so this brings
Anakin over to the darkside wholeheartedly. Until this fight with Obi-wan
Kenobi, Anakin was still able to turn back to the path of the Jedi and what
is right, but with the disfigurement and betrayal, from his point of view,
this was the final nail in the coffin. Anakin decided to become a Darth and
embrace the darkside and to become a pawn unknowingly to Palpatine.

Unknowingly? Surely at that stage it would be pretty obvious to Anakin?

This is all very interesting, but it also contains several spoilers.
Please put in a little spoiler space in the future to avoid any

...And to be even more sarcastic Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike
Rutherford (perhaps even Steve Hackett) will all come out and perform the
Genesis classic "Dance On A Volcano." Better Genesis than NSHIT!!!

AFIAK that particular element comes from one of the earlier star wars books.
Which was just rolled up into the screen saver.

I believe it was also in the novelization of ROTJ.

There's various sources for that, "molten pit" seems to cover them all as a
generalisation.

It's not a spoiler, since it's in the ROTJ novellisation.

It was published in 1983. If people haven't read it by now then they'll just
have to suffer the spoilers. 19 years is too long to keep using spoiler
space.

A long time ago
I had a pictorial book of the original Star Wars, and it had a history of
each character at the beginning of the book, For Vaders background it told
pretty much the same story.
