Hello Everyone!
I would love to start off by thanking you for allowing me into the group, I really appreciate it! I am currently working with some people to collect and organize Adult Swim history. For those that still might regularly follow Adult Swim you might find that this history is really all over the place and in some cases you need to do a lot of work to find something. I do have a history background and I have sort of been using that to support fandoms that aren't as well examined. I initially reached out to a few individuals from old Space Ghost websites as a great starting point for learning early history (Such as Mike from Ghost Planet Central and Gerson M. Koenig of the Daily Ghost Planet), but seeing as those were really old at this point, I didn't expect much. Luckily, Sara B. from Renegade Chickens actually did get back to me with a lot of wonderful information. She recommended that I come here and see who might want to talk!
My initial question that I haven't been able to answer, and I think can only be answered by someone from the time, is about the December 2000 stealth premieres. I know that Sealab 2021 and The Brak Show premiered on December 21, while Harvey Birdman and ATHF came out on December 30 along with more Sealab 2021. What I am not as certain about, and I think is important to Adult Swim history, is the times and orders in which they came out. I also heard that there might have been a VHS recording of the second day, which I would love to take a look at. On that note, other than this specific question, I am really looking for first hand accounts of the early days of Adult Swim. One big part of looking at more modern history like this is the use of oral history, and who would be better at this then SGC2C fans who built the foundation for the current Adult Swim fan base. So really, if you are interested please let me know, I can either ask you some questions or you can just share what you remember. There might be things that I don't even know to ask because they are sort of lost to history but not memory. Also, if you have any old recordings from any Adult Swim period, I'd love to also take a lot at those. Really, anything you want to talk about Adult Swim related, whether that is shows, toys, events, comic-cons, etc, would be amazingly helpful. Please reach out if you want to talk about any thing, I can also discuss what I have so far and am working on! Thank you so much!
Also, there are some things that seem to be lost, such as the Sealab 2021 Maxim Hair Dye commercial. There are sites that have a lot of stuff but are password protected, like myspleen, so maybe someone can also help in that regard?
