Let's see here... rendered intro or X4 and Lunar Complete-esque anime
opening? Hmm. Actually, the Dreamcast makes it more or less possible for the
opening and the game to take on the same qualities... the game will only be a
little rougher around the edges, from what I've seen, than the FMV will. They
may even use the same engine to display game and FMV... though I'm admittedly
in the dark about Dreamcast technical specifications. So the intro that
exists IS anime, in a sense... anime rendered in 3D, but anime nonetheless.
Though I could do without Sonic's green eyes and manic grin.

Hmm... while we're on the subject, how many of you have headed off to Sonic
Team's website and downloaded all the character previews from the game? I
know I have... and they're all very nice pieces of work, Japanese narration
notwithstanding. Music which fits characters, voices which fit characters...
it might be a nice trick to shift back and forth between anime and gameplay,
but isn't it better to have the video cuts seamlessly integrated into the
game, so that you can't tell the difference? I know that's what I'd like to
see.

Further hmm... if you have heard the Japanese voices, you know that they at
least sound like they fit the characters in question. One wonders how much of
the original character of the voices and dialogue will be kept when Sonic
Adventure is dubbed over into English. I'd like to hope that, with this being
the premiere game for the Dreamcast system, that Sega would take its time and
carefully translate everything and get decent voice actors. Those of you
who've played Rockman 8 know how awful anime scenes can be with bad voice
actors.

And "Sonic Schoolhouse". Uuugh!! That has to be THE worst SONIC voice I've
ever heard. Sounds like Jakeel White with a British accent! ;) Actually, it
sounds more like that old show on Nick Jr., "Rubert" or whatever.

Humph, those are the Japanese TV ads that I was trying to tell this crowd
about a couple weeks ago.. I don't think anyone payed attention. ^_^; It's
a real shame american ads aren't like that, I know if they were to show that
kind of footage (and ALL from in-game!) they'd turn a few heads, like the FF7
and RE2 ads have.. The trick is to make people think it's a movie before you
tell them it's a game ^_- Of course, that wouldn't work with Sonic, but
still.. if that doesn't sell DC's I don't know what will. All that music is
from the game, each character has his or her own theme song, that gets
played... at some point ^_^ Kind of like the songs in Burning Rangers..
Well, E102y and Robotnik don't have songs, but.. The songs will be released
on CD sometime this month in Japan, I'm trying to see if I can snag a copy..
Something to help tide over until the game finally comes out over here...

I know I (Well, I know one other guy who likes 'em) am probably the only
person in the world who liked the american MM8 voices, but, well, I did!
They were so totally unexcpected for one thing, and I found that they really
DID fit the characters.. It gives MegaMan a whole new attitude, which I
found quite refreshing, as opposed to the super-generic voice they gave him
in the cartoon and X4. In fact, it really gives the opening and ending an
almost sureal feel, makes you wonder just who this MM guy really is.. The
dialogue was a little corny, but voice actors couldn't have helped that (the
cheesy ending, for one thing...) Of course, if Sonic comes out talkin' like
MM8 then I'm not gonna be happy, but I think it worked there. The other
voices are a mixed bag, really good ones like Roll and Grenademan (I'll
PUNISH YOU!!!) and some more painful ones like Aquaman, Swordman (So corny!)
and Dr. Light (I'll get dat wascawy wiwey... he talks just like Elmer
Fudd!)... I loved Roll's voice, soooo cute!!!

On the Sonic topic though, I've really grown attached to the japanese voices
already.. So that can mean two things: 1. I'm so adjusted that anything
else will seem wrong, or 2. I will grow attached to anything Sega churns
out. I'm sure it'll be fine.. ^_^; **Optimistic hopes**

Yes. I downloaded the Sonic Adventure comercial narrorated by Amy Rose, and I
almost thought the part where she and the flicky bird were talking to E-108r
Gamma *was* actually a CG animated sequence.

I'm not exactly sure about what your saying here, but the part with the FMV
using the game's grafics engine thing I think was used in the game Sengoku
Turb.

No comprende. But seriously, it looks more like it's strait out CG animation to
me.

I don't have a problem with it. actually.

Well, I didn't download all of them, just the first four commercials (Sonic's,
Tails', Knuckles', and Amy's) and the preview MOV file.

Yes, but I don't think the DC is *that* far ahead of the game in the grafics
department.

That should be reason enough to get the good voice actors and dialouge. IF not,
at least make it Burning Rangers quality.

Yes, I know. But you shouldn't have said that. Really. I mentioned it once

I have a question here... Why does Sonic Adventure have to be dubbed?
Why can't it just have subtitles?
Oh, of course! The illiterates wouldn't buy it, and Sega would lose
money. What was I thinking?!

Only the games where there are no voices at all. I guess the companies
think that video game players are just too lazy to read.

I think. Oh, and it's in Japanese, so you'll want to set your browser to the
language if at all possible. You'll have to do a bit of clicking and guessing
to get to the videos... just look for a page with pictures of the six main
chars. with running times by them and use the links there.

the fact is, it's not the dubbing that you should worry about, its the people
they get to dub it. Sonic will sound gruff, amy will sound like a baby, and
we can only what tails an knuckles will sound like. I'm shooting for a
surfer in one of the two.

And "Mystical Ninja starring Goemon". The theme song (REALLY gay, might I
add...) had subtitles. Argh, now I'm in a bad mood just thinking about this
piece of crap Nintendo and Konami call a game...

It's not too difficult to get around the Sonic Team site - I
just hold my pointer over the links, read the link at the bottom right
(IE) and see what it says - most of the page names are written in
English.

Well.. why not provide the same
service a LD does? Why not have
BOTH? DUNDUNDUUUUN.
Personally, I -really- dread the
idea of the SA voices. Sonic's voice
in the Japanese version is already
a joke, though I love Tails' and Amy's.
I liked the ones for Sonic and Knuckles
better.

Oh yeah, is it just me, or did anyone
notice that little rap thing in the background
of the Knuckles MPG? What the HELL
is up with that? Is Knuckles going to
be sportin' a shirt that says "WestSYDE"
soon? Or maybe something as equally
stupid? Yeesh.. next thing you know,
Tails won't be Sonic's 'lil' bro', he'll
be his 'Homie G'. Or Homie T.. gah.

Good heavens, it seems like everybody I've ever talked to on the internet has
some beef against rap.. It's not my favorite kinda music, but i don't hold
anything against it.. And in some cases it's really cool, like the
Burning Rangers' "Burning Ship to takeoff" track... Or, heck, Parappa?? That
rap offending your ears right now is "Unknown from M.E." Knuckles' theme song.
All the characters have their own theme, as I'm sure you know. None of the
other characters have rap songs, and it's not literally sung by the characters
anyway. I think rap just fits with Knuckles' style... Of course, the lyrics
for almost all the songs are insane anyway, so... ^_- You can get realaudio
versions of them at a webpage that I think Dejanews is trying to filter out of
the message...

It took some getting used to but I like all the songs now, although I think
Amy's makes her sound like a prostitute.. I'm hoping the songs get redone a
little like the US Burning Rangers.. might polish 'em up a bit.. ^_^; (Or we
might get the US "Burning Heats.." **shiver**) Still, I'm picking up the
soundtrack CD as soon as the store gets 'em in in a week or two, so I guess I
must be able to tolerate it is as is ^_-

Heh. Actually, the rap is a minor part of the Knuckles soundtrack; (RA
courtesy of Artail Productions) the bulk is mostly an R&B vocal describing
Knux's solitude and how he doesn't want to trust ANYONE, not even Sonic, to
watch his Island if he should leave. The image songs are, for the most part,
very well done; Tails and Sonic are my two personal favorites. Tails's theme
is a rather light pop piece about how he wants to go beyond being a sidekick,
and Sonic's is a rather hard-driving piece about persistence and
self-reliance. To me, at least, they've depicted the characters very nicely
with the image songs.
