Hello,

Sonic Adventure is a great game.
Since Sonic adventure 2 is being developped, I have somme comments/ideas of
some features Sonic Team could add to this sequel :

* The level design : please add short cuts !

Many reviews have said Sonic made the transition from 2D to 3D perfect, but
after playing the 2D games again, I beg to differ.
- In the original series, You could make your way higher up in the level,
or take the bottom route. There was certainly multiple ways to reach the
finish.
- Whereas in Sonic Adventure, there are no short cuts, just the one path
through the levels.

I hope the Sonc Team will add this feature to the level design in the sequel
!

* The innovation

In 2D games designers had to use their imagination to add new
toys to the levels. In Sonic 2 (Megadrive/Genesis) there's these
huge nuts which you dash on to spin around, and ride up the bolts.
In many levels over the series, were catapults. On one
side would be a badnik, which you'd send flying up into
the air. Stand on the other side of the catapult and
when the enemy lands back down, you'll go shooting up.

There's many other examples. Never the less, I bet
if you were to play the originals, then Sonic Adventure,
you'd think Sonic Team could of added some of these
extras.
Along with all these were secrets hidden behind walls.
Spot them around the levels, spin dash into them, and
they would shatter away. These style of secrets were
even in the Saturn game, Sonic 3D Blast. But none were
to be found in Sonic Adventure. Any particular reason?

I just feel when Sonic Team design the next sequel
they should play the good old Mega Drive games again first !

* The music : the music has to be catchy !

Now this is something I've marked Sonic Adventure down in
my own opinion, the music. From Star Light Zone in
Sonic 1 to the soothing Sky Chase Zone in Sonic 2, and
the pumping beats of the final boss in Sonic & Knuckles,
the music is just so catchy! Something sourly missing
from Sonic Adventure.
Nights had brilliant music, along with Sonic 3D Blast (who
will forget those munk-like chants of Rusty Ruins), but
why Sonic Team didn't work their magic with Sonic Adventure
is a mystery to me. Perhaps CD tracks don't suit Sonic ?

Could you tell me what you think of these comments ?
Thank you !

why would you want to get through the level any faster? it would just make you
finish the game faster and get bored with it. They need to make the levels
longer and more difficult. and make MORE levels all together so we don't finish
the game in a day, and not get bored with it.

>* The music : the music has to be catchy !

the music WAS catchy, for me anyway. I thought it was the best music in a sonic
game ive ever heard. I like the mystic ruins, speed highway, and the red
mountain level ( forgot the name of that one) the best for level music, and all
the charactor songs sounded great. I think SA has the best video game music out
of all the games ive played.

I don't really see any problem with that. Sonic Adventure was a great
game, and not having short cuts didn't bother me one bit.

I can't really come up with a responce for this part, since it was a
garbeled up.

The music in Sonic Adventure was excellent. I don't see why you have a
problem with it.

There WERE short cuts.....
And about them spoiling the level, that's not true.....
When you play the level once, you usually take the route they want you to. But
as you continue to play the level, you find the shortcuts, and usually they are
fun to find, and make the game better when you find them.

After the first loop in Emerald coast, you are the the little island. Most
people would run staright to the jump pad, but instead, get to the top by the
jump pad, and goto the left and fall off into the water. Look! An extra life!
See! You find things as you explore, and usually they are worth hunting for,
and makes the level more fun when you know where they are.

Sonic Adventure was not without shortcuts, but from what I remember of
it, there were not as many different paths in the levels as there were
in the older Sonic games. I agree that a greater variety of routes
through the levels would help a Sonic Adventure sequel.

> * The innovation

I thought that Sonic Adventure had plenty of toys throughout the
levels. Maybe it could use more, but I think it had enough.

>
> * The music : the music has to be catchy !

My big problem with the music of Sonic Adventure is that it lacked a
SLOW ending song. A big game should have a slow ending song that makes
you feel proud of yourself, yet makes you feel that something is
incomplete. It makes you feel happy, yet it makes you feel a little
depressed. It makes you feel relaxed, yet it makes you feel a little
excited. I would like Sonic Adventure 2 to have a song like "Sonic
Boom," the ending theme of the American version of Sonic the Hedgehog
CD, except with better lyrics. If you ask me, a poppy, fast-paced
ending theme can virtually spoil the whole game, which is why I don't
really care for the music of the Japanese version of Sonic CD. On the
other hand, I thought the rest of Sonic Adventure's music was good
except for Big's stupid theme.

> Could you tell me what you think of these comments ?

> Thank you !

I think you made some good points about how a Sonic Adventure sequel
could improve on Sonic Adventure. One thing that I would like to be
included in Sonic Adventure 2 is a two-player competetion mode, similar
to the one in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis/MegaDrive version).

Hmm well actually there are shortcuts if you look for them. They are quite
many ways to play around in the game too.. well perhaps not like the

I like the music! I agree it is very different from the previous games but
it is very nice in a way.. I hope hope they would be able to do fade out..
sometimes when the music adruptly stopped it kinda annoys me though. But I
think the music are done very nicely... hey I even got the soundtrack of
the game! =D

I would like a 2-player mode though... something like Sonic R.. =} And I
really would like to play a new Nights game.... =}

The thing is, that's probably all they are now: plans! You know, sketches for
new characters, notes on what could be made different and some little chit-chat
here and there around the office of whether to use the Sonic Adventure grafics
engine or to create a whole new one. Just talk of what could be done. You see,
I'm betting that's what Yuji Naka was talking about in that interview: they're
planning on making a Nights 2, but it's all still on paper.

Personally, I think a Burning Rangers 2 is more in order, but that's just me.

2 (poss 4) player has to be like Sonic 2 style with catagories to win but on
ALL levels, also a Chao battle that is on the DC (a 3D version of the VM
battle and a proper 1 on 1 bea em up version) with random special moves
depending on type, Chao forward and backward compatable (new features but
saved in a way that it can still be used on SA), Mega Drive mode, a secret
mode which lets you play 2D versions of the levels with MD style music and
graphix, special stages, Super emeralds therefore Super and Hyper charecters
(playable on any level after completion of full game). Tikal and Chaos
somehow. New Chao.

yes, but some people took that to mean that Nights 2 was currently in
development and would be ready for showcase. _GOING_ is the key word in your

Actually if you go to IGN he said that they aren't commenting on rumours
like this, unless a game's under strong development then if they say they
are it may get canned (Sonic X-Treme anyone?) and if they say no there will
be a lot of fans upset, esp if they decide to go ahead in the end, it maybe
in the works, but we won't know for a while.

While I don't have anything to complain about here as there ARE plenty
of shortcuts, more expansive levels where you could start off in the
opposite direction and end up back at the end anyway would be nice,
giving you more to explore.. Don't worry about missing something, just
take a different path next time!

But I

SA's music is awesome, though I still prefer the MegaCD soundtrack.. I
just wish they could have implimented the songs decently, I like them
all (even Big's, in fact, I like Big's a LOT ^_^) but it seems like they
just were thrown into the game because they had them.. Also if they
could do something about the music stopping and coming back between cut
scenes, that's quite irritating. Just when it picks up, it stops and
starts over because of a stupid black screen that really doesn't even
load anything!!

> I would like a 2-player mode though... something like Sonic R.. =} And
I
> really would like to play a new Nights game.... =}

Two player mode is a must, even if all it is is Sonic 3 style additional
courses, shorter but with the DC powering it, I mean, the DC could
juggle a ton of Sonic R's running simultaneously without sweating, a 2
player split screen race would be no problem.

My other ideas all dirive from my irritations in Time Attack. I'd like
it to store more than one score so you can see what score you beat when
you finish a level, I find that I have forgotton my old time and never
know how much I improved! You should be able to download the best World
Ranking times into your DC for immediate reference so you can see how
you compare there. Time Attack needs to offer infinite lives so you can
keep hammering away without having to stop to reload not only the level
but the damn select screen too. And the option to start all the way
over instead of at the last goalpost would be nice too. "Ghost Mode"
ala Mario Kart where you can race your previous attempt on screen,
wouldn't that be cool? And with that you could conceivably have a
2player race over the internet, so you can see your opponent run along
with you, not just competing by times..

it's been forever since I reared my ugly head around here... hmm..
