I have one thing to say about this, and this is the only time you'll ever
hear me say this.
Ew.
The pictures are HORRIBLE. It takes away what's so great about Sonic
Adventure and replaces it with some awful, boring, sickeningly smooth
graphics.
Still, I suppose I was hoping for a bit too much in thinking they could make
a better game than SA, and in thinking that its sequel would look any good.
But that doesn't stop me being so disappointed.
I know several people who are awe-struck by these pictures... I really can't
understand it...

Well, one would guess that these screens are from an early mockup of SA2. I
mean, almost no video game ever looks good in its early stages, so more than
likely they just wanted to have something ready to hold people over until
they get the real thing finished.

They must be very easily impressed, then. I have to admit, those screens are
rather nasty, when compared to the original SA.

Well, I think it could be somewhat better... but then again, these aren't
the best screenshots in the world.
What really intrigues me though, is that shot where Sonic is being chased by
that huge black semi... could that be hinting that there will be a level
where Sonic is chased through the streets of San Francisco by Eggman, in what
basically looks like that giant evil semi from "Knight Rider"? If so, that
would be just plain kick ass.
I just hope that Eggman doesn't end up with "Hasselhoff Hair", though. And if
Tails trades in his plane for a talking black Trans-Am, then I'm just going
to go shoot somebody.
Sickeningly smooth? I take it you mean the terrible shadow
sourcing, reminds me of a Saturn game, as for the
characters, they're looking a lot more blocky in this stage
of development, altho I was pleased to see that Sonic now
has fingers :).
And is it just me, or do the ones with Sonic running thru
the green tunnel and Knuckles underwater just look like Lost
World edited a bit? Please don't say that for the first time
ever in a Sonic game (this is along main Segasonic
storylines, anyway) they're going to repeat a zone.
Another point- I looked at the pictures of the city, and
thought it reminded me of San Fransisco... then I happened
to glance at the bottom of the page "Presented By
SonicTeamUSA @SanFrancisco"... hmm...
Right, that's all my moaning done. The good points? I
thought that the cloudy sky was particularly interesting,
obviously Sonic Team's parallaxing texture maps have been
improved since SA, seen as a lot of the originals sky
textures looked a lot more grainy.
The logo looks cool as well.
And Eggman kicks ass!!!
(not really referring to the version in the screen shots, he
looks sorta blocky, that was just a general statement)

I thought you already knew that...
Anyway, I was just saying that I was looking forward to some brilliant
screenshots and I was really, really disappointed. Why not compare these to
SA's early screenshots. There's an obvious difference in niceness.

Is it just me, or does that screenshot look like a badly-constructed collage
of sorts?
Hm, some people seem to have different thoughts on the shots and the
quality of the images presented within. Personally, I felt the quality
of the graphics themselves was standard for a game in this state of
development, but I found the potential they displayed to me amazing.
Racing through a lush tunnel with clinging vines, blasting through San
Francisco traffic to outrun a huge semi, and stopping in time to cuddle
your Chaos sounds like some damn good fun to me.
What's this? I'm actually in support of this, even if it's being
developed in the U.S.? Well, yeah, cuz Naka is involved, and it DOES say
SonicTeam in the lower right hand corner of that cool ass logo which I'm
assuming is part of the title screen. So everything's higgelty piggelty.

Does it really matter who makes the game? The only thing that does matter is
whether whoever makes it does a good job with it.
Perhaps this could be the game that divides Sonic fans on the Dreamcast. I
know many disagree with me (although I'm sure that some will agree) but I
thought Sonic 2 was terrible compared to Sonic [1]. The level design was
stale, repetitive and boring. It seems to me they rushed it by having too
many different locations and not any depth in the actual levels. I recall
being very impressed with Sonic 3 in comparison. That was a fine game when
it came out. It had a proper (but minimally exposed) story and much longer
levels. Tails could fly. There was a new character called Knuckles but they
exposed you to him in such a way that worked better than Tails. I loved it.
MY only gripe with it was the obscene cost.
Many reports have said that SA2 will be to SA what Sonic 2 was to Sonic the
Hedgehog (Sonic 1) - and if it parallels Sonic 2 in all respects then I
doubt I'll like it. But if it's what Sonic 3 was to Sonic games I might be
interested. Anyway, regardless of whether or not SA2 comes out this
Christmas, I know my money's not going towards it for now...
Whoops, I've babbled on a bit too much. Good night, if anyone's bothered to
read this far...
>>My god, though. This is attractive.
>Well, I think it could be somewhat better... but then again,
>these aren't the best screenshots in the world.
Well, that's a given. I'm talking about the apparent potential, not
what little we've actually been shown. They're obviously using a much
higher poly count for the characters, and some interesting lighting.
You'll notice the very deep, dark shading and the glaring sunlight.
Plus, while in this shot the shadows aren't too well-joined quite
yet, you'll notice there are actual realtime shadows being cast
around under Sonic and the chao. And there's just an obvious amount
of polish around, in comparison to the rushed look of SA1, even if
the textures are rough and spaces are weird and some lighting is a
bit off. It already looks more "solid", technically, than the first
game did, in several ways.
And I'm just happy to see that Naka is still in charge! With "Sonic
Team USA" rather than Sega of America handling the rest of the stuff.
Have you noticed that the game looks to be set on the West Coast?
That looks like San Francisco and a bit of Death Valley...
In addition -- and this is just a personal issue -- it looks to be a
bit darker than the first game (which was already hinting at a
slightly grittier direction for the series). Within a certain range,
I've been rather hoping for SA2 to head this way -- if only for a
single game. I liked the taste last time around; it seemed to fit
pretty well. Experimentation is nearly always a noble enterprise...
--
-- "Fnoooooo...?"
(That, and the logo is neat.)
Personally I hope he trips on a pothole... Then they could call it
Knuckles Adventure!

Oh yeah, if they can use the DC's power to its full potential, then this game
will probably be fantastic in terms of graphics and such. But, as always,
pretty pictures won't compensate for shoddy control and poor level design. So
we still have to actually see the game in action, maybe if we're really
really lucky we can get a working demo to toy around with.

Well, if you look at the bottom of that page, it says "Produced by Sonic Team
USA, San Francisco". So more than likely they are drawing from the local area
for some level design.
Still, given that San Francisco has those huge hills, I think it makes for a
nice place to set a game like SA2. Can you imagine that huge semi go flying
off one of those hills? That would be just insane to watch, given the correct
camera angle.
. . . .
Nnnnnnnno, I don't think they're going to do that.
Besides, a Knuckles game would be kinda boring... just Knux standing next to
a Chaos Emerald for 12 levels and punching anyone who got too close.
Heh. I really like the shot that Sonic running in the street or
something? And the resemblence of the scenery with the picture of Sonic
Team pplz.
The one with Sonic wearing... clothes? That one looks awfully like Stick
Canyon of Nights.
Hmmm from these screenshots (though I know they are early ones)... I
kinda think the models of characters can be done a little better.
I would like to see Chao playing with a ball, indeed. =D That would be
fun. And really, this looks more promising than Sonic Shuffle.

Various mumblings...
Hmm... well, there's been a mixed response... I can see why. If you squint
your eyes at all the little details, there's a lot to nitpick over. Look at
Sonic's shadow in that vine-tunnel picture. Look at Sonic's fingers in the
Red Mountain-type picture - very blocky and unreal, I think. Eww... look at
that index!
Still, what I see, I like. Knuckles is swimming, which eliminates the
prospects of those terrifying water level from the 2D games... but
hopefully they won't use it to make Mario-esqe "diving" levels...
I wonder what that "G" in the Robotnik picture stands for?
I can't believe no one's compared those semi scenes to Crazy Taxi yet. I
like the idea, although I'm not sure exactly how the dynamics will work -
how are you supposed to dodge incoming obstacles? Or will danger come from
behind (missiles and such)? Hopefully, Sonic Team will remove the scenes
where you simply press forward and let Sonic run on auto for a while...
The Chao are back. The fact that one is playing on a ball gives me hope
that they will expand the A-Life system and give the Chao more personality.
I'm not sure how they'll end up in the story... but we're talking about a
game that made you run down a Half-Pipe to get mystical artifacts of power,
so I'm not going to worry about it too much.

Serves 'em right for trying to get their grubby little hands on the
Master Emerald. At least Knux has a purpose, to protect the emerald,
rather than run around 24/7 with reckless abandonment.
As much as I would agree to that and would really love to see Eggman do
something that prestige himself (and not one of his minions), I doubt that's
what we're seeing. After taking a closer look at the pictures, you'll see
their's no driver in the truck. And in Eggman's picture, their are no side
windows and the background doesn't look very dense as the inside of a truck
would be. Now these pictures do look like their related to each other (like
frames in a movie sequence). I think they may be a little slide show and maybe
Eggman is controlling the truck. Like, by remote control (he could have been
monitoring Sonic threw that periscope next to him). Or it could have just came
out of no where like the whale in Emerald Coast... or since the road is
downhill, maybe the brakes were on crack and so gravity caused it to zoom down
the road ....
If so, that

put him out of his misery.
Specially from a team of that size! Very impressive, since it's already looking
better than SA1 (which had a staff of 200 people .. or was it 100?).

starting to have second thoughts because of his major involvement in PSO...

(There you go.)
Hm. Looks like SA2 might deal with (now that the other file has
finally finished downloading for me) the opposite of "chaos energy",
somehow. And a confrontation with either an equal opposite of Sonic
or a personality struggle within him.
A bit vague, though.
If you look at the text and read into it just a bit, several word
pairings -- "Original/Fake", for instance -- suggest that the game
might have something to do with another Sonic, operating with the
opposite of chaos energy behind him...
hrm...
If were were to be a bit too linear about things, the metal and
silver Sonics were in those glass cases in Robotnik's jungle base in
SA1... although since they've been used several times in the past it
seems like it wouldn't be that huge a deal for them to be brought
back once more. There must be something more interesting happening
here...
As I've said before, the first game really kind of set an interesting
new base. It had a pretty darned deep and mature plot, though it was
difficult to tell at times because the thing was so rushed. A very
good "re-introduction", I guess. But kind of illy-focused. There was
a bit of a "variety show" feel, if that makes any sense... Like it
wanted to be a deep game but it had to make allowences for all of the
extra modes and characters... And in the end, the game just kind of
turned into "look -- yay! the whole gang's here!"
I dunno. I've no verification for this at all, but something just
looks very right about this game so far...
That Tails and Amy are apparently left behind here and the two
"adult" characters -- Sonic and Knux -- are off on their own, in what
appears to be, from what's been spouted so far, a much more personal
battle with Robotnik -- "us or him"... hm.
I think I'm reading into these clips much too far at this point.
I like the facial animation that Sonic has in the second clip. Every
bit as strong as Ryo Hazuki...

It occurs to me that maybe they haven't got around to doing Tails and Amy
yet. I imagine they'll be in the finished product, be it a non-speaking role
or not. :)
Actually, there was a rumor that there was going to be a "shadow sonic"
that was his enemy. First off the title screen (with the real Sonic's
head on top and a black Sonic's head on the bottom). Then there are the
words "Yin/Yang", "Light/Shadow", "Original/Fake", and "Hero/Dark" which
all point towards that too. This may be an interesting insight, or
maybe I'm just boring you all with my ramblings. :)
