Shostakovich String Quartets

fan of Dmitri Shostakovich, but I´ve listen only his 15 string
quartets, have a missed anything else? Becuase this quartets are
amazing. At some point I've realised that Shostakovich uses famous
melodies, but in such a way that you can't notice it. For example, in
the fourth movement of the String Quartet Nº9, the melodie played by
the viola is almost the same melodie Dvorak used in his final movement
of his "From the New World" Symphony... Another example is in the
middle of the 2nd movement of his String Quartet Nº7, when the viola
and the cello perform a misterious melodie that is very similar to a
melodie that the cellos perform in a part of the first movement of the
"Unfinished" Symphony of Schubert... Nevertheless, I think Shostakovich
was a real genious, more than Mozart.

I find it too academic and "escapist" for my taste. Have you read
"Testimony: The Memoirs of Dimitri Shostakovich" by Solomon Volkov?
This kind of consciousness, of reality, does not exist for people in the
West. Yet.
But actually, South Park Studio's Trey Parker is very similar
musically, I mean, has exactly the same sense of humour and slyness and
survival as Shostakovich. Thank God for both of them.
Mozart _would_ have been a greater genius than Shostakovich -- if
only Mozart had had a totalitarian dictator threatening to liquidate him
all his career.

P.S. I find his symphonies hilarious and sublime, and the preludes and
fugues, and the Lady Macbeth opera is... what opera should be. Have a
