We are in the process of putting on a conference, and for what the hotel
wants to charge us for one day's rental of a screen (for the lcd
projector), we can buy one - which makes sense as we have other conferences
coming up.

However, in looking at screens, we find that we have a couple of choices
for screens which can fold up and be transported easily in a car. There is
the traditional screen on a tripod (like a music stand), and that folds up
and comes with a metal carrying case. Then there is what is called a
"portable screen". This comes in a heavy metal tube which lays on the
floor, and the screen pulls up out of it (think of a window shade, only
upside down) and when fully extended it attaches to a vertical supporting
rod.

The tripod style is ~$200.00. The 'portable' style is ~$600.00!!

Now, assuming the same viewable area, and same material, for both screens,
*why* would one purchase the portable style, rather than the tripod, for 3
or more times the cost? It is such a great difference that it has me
wondering if there is something I am overlooking, or missing.

Thanks for any insights and advice!

Anne
