Here's my question about yaoi. I just don't get it, so someone please
tell me.

Why does yaoi art often make men look more feminine? Why are bishounen
so popular, especially in this respect?

Yuri art never makes women look more masculine. For the most part,
Haruka looks like a girl. Only in the occasional manga pic does Naoko
make her look a bit manly.

I expect many flames etc etc from all the yaoi fans. To them I just
say,

ROSEXMIRANDA!!!!!!!!!!!! Biiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!

Cause Bishounen tend to be nice looking, period. ^^; not that some people don't
like Rougish Looking types.

Well, the trend is towards very pretty. Which sort of always directs itself a
lot of attritubes women happen to have.

Well, maybe not a bit. In some pics, when Naoko wants to show more masculine
Haruka, she'll "cheat" by actually change her face (smooth it out a bit, then
chin etc.). widen her shoulders, and simply doesn't draw her bust. She looks
quite different, esp. when I saw the 2 types in one of her Artbooks on the same
page.

One theory I've heard is that women grow up, they tend to "adjust" their
feelings of attraction towards those who look more and more masculine. This
suggests that bishounen are a "break-in" period. Then again, this is an
incredibly sexist theory. Don't kill the messenger.

Well, yaoi is directed more to women than to men. It's usually the women who
draw and buy them.

I agree, she doesn't look the same sometimes.

I'm 30, and I still like girls looking men, at least in anime. So...

In the "real, normal" world, you see tons of normal yuri pr0n, but much
much less yaoi porn, and that's all normally directed at gay men. It
rarely involves two guys that look like women.

Some thoughts:

* yaoi is written by women, for women. Thus it models what Japanese
women (of a certain age) find attractive.

* Yaoi models male/female relationships, not male/male relationships --
despite the fact that both characters are male. The femmey bishounen
is usually (but not always, I am given to understand) the one who takes
on the female role.

Yuri is written for men, and thus is meant to appeal to what they find
attractive.

If what you are asking is 'Why do women find feminine men attractive?'
-- I have no idea. I just do. Why do you find attractive whatever you
find attractive?

As noted elsewhere, yaoi is written by women, for women. It doesn't
attempt to appeal to gay men. Gay porn features male-male relationships,
but it's not yaoi.

Well,... what girl can resist a RL gay guy?.... the _feminine_ gay male, I
mean. ^^;; It's a nice change from macho-pigism. </Jesse>

Erm... I'd also figure that since yaoi is mainly about the sex, they'd like
the art to flow well, and biceps and bulging bones wouldn't be pretty. ^_~

Oh come now, how many of you men WANT a more manly woman? Most just really
want one that is as rough as a man.^^;;

There's a question about yaoi, and I almost missed it?! Kyaaa! ^_~

Hmmm....um....maybe....that's what women want men to look like. It's
less threatening or something (or, I could have no idea what I'm
talking about...). And, um, they're pretty and gorgeous and stuff. It
has to do with aesthetics. Yeah.

And HarukaxMichiru wasn't made for guys, so there's going to be a
difference.

They are not a real yuri couple, but most of us wish they were. They
are from Legend of Dragoon. Rose is mighty fine.

Yuri is written for men?

Actually....no. Or more accurately, not just for men. Some of it, anyways.
<g>

There seems to be two types of f/f relationships being confused here.

One is the stuff you find on porn sites and playboy etc.

It usually gives the impression of "Yes, these women dig women, but on no
account should you think they wouldn't be keen on getting a guy."

But there's also the yuri fandom that really _likes_ the emotions and beauty
behind a relationship between two women, who are dedicated to each other beyond
anyone else, male or female.

There is also the equivilent in yaoi. Some of it is just for sexual
titillation, but some fans like a healthy helping of shounen ai (male emotional
WAFF) with their yaoi.

The Song of Taliesin

"If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that
fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and
