I was flipping through my local paper the other day when I
happened to read that starting this saturday, Dragon Ball will be aired.
So, what's it all about? Does it suck?

I've only seen the Cantonese Dragon Ball Z and it ROCKS! It's
almost as good as Sailor Moon, but maybe in English it won't be
as good (especially if its Diced up)

Dragon Ball appears in USA too. I got up early to see it once, but never
again. I don't know if it was the translation (no DIC busts, please) or if
the original show was like that, but I'll never watch it again. The story
reminds me of bad American cartoon plots. (ie: pointless and stupid) As I
understand it Dragon Ball Z is much better.

The early episodes of Dragon Ball (the ones in English. Note no "Z")
are the adventures of a superstrong little boy and associates in search of
magical wish-granting DragonBalls. It's set in an odd mixed SF/Fantasy world.
Lots of goofy characters and situations. Funny and silly.

The dub *is* cut and includes some digital re-touching -- but is still filled
with outrageous material -- toilet jokes, fart jokes, sexual innuendo, some
serious violence, spaghetti-western references...

You should watch it, if only to see a rather different side of Japanese
kid's TV, compared with Sailor Moon.

Errrr... no. If you thought that the Dragonball eps aired here were
pointless and stupid, then you won't like DBZ, which has fights that last
for dozens of episodes. I am not exagerating. Of course, if you like
big fights, it is one of the big fighting-est anime around.

I kind of saw a bit of it this morning. Sure doesn't look as good
as Sailor Moon. It looks like it is for a younger audience than
Sailor Moon is getting.
