Yeah! All of them! I LOVE them! Of course, none of them hold a candle to Hime-chan
no Ribbon. Wahoo mahou shoujo! (In fact, I should be getting all Wedding Peach
later on--I'm so happy!)
And, waiting for me at college--hopefully--will be every single episode of Mahou
no Idol Pastel Yumi! Go Yumi-chan!

It's safe as coffee!
But, seriously, I think it's safe to watch. And it has great characterization,
some of the best I've ever seen.
And there's not a single character I hate! Nanako, Tomoko, Mariko, Kaoru, Rei,
Fukiko, etc. I like them all! Well, except Aya. I pity Aya, for she is truly
pathetic. I don't like her, but I don't hate her.
Marie
I haven't seen Creamy Mami but..
I think you know my opinion of Nurse Angel Ririka SOS. Eps 11-26 are just
awesome. It's just too bad that once 2nd seasons started, it became really
filler-ish again. Otherwise, Ririka would be my favorite mahou shoujo show
even above sailormoon. And yes... music is perfect =)
Wedding Peach is another story... while I've only seen 8 eps, it's been
unfunny, uninteresting, and unfulfilling. i don't hate it, but i don't like
it either. But... Furil(the seiyuu group who sings all the songs) rules. I
just have to pick up a Wedding Peach CD or two
Hime-chan no Ribbon is also pretty cool, but it's quite different than the two
mentioned above. It's more of a drama show with a magical item(you'll
understand when you see it). I like it, but not nearly as much as Andrea and
Marie. Himeko, with her ribbon, can transform into anyone she wants for an
hour. This allows for some very hilarious(and troublesome) situations.
What I'm into right now is "Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala". It's a really new
anime (IIRC, it aired spring '98 in Japan) but I like it. It seems to be
more of a drama show than a monster show. The girl's power is to change into
an older girl... by the 2nd ep, her older form is recognized as a model.
"Card Captor Sakura"(started Feb '98 in Japan) is also ok, though I don't see
the fascination in it. I love the animation. It has Tange Sakura and
Aya-san (SailorMercury to you guys). It has a neat concept(Sakura has to
find all the Clow Cards, each grants her a power). But I thought the manga
was cuter and seeing it in anime form kinda disappointed me. I've only seen
a little of it, so it'll probably get better. Another monster-of-the-day
anime, but I like the little twists in that she has to use captured cards to
capture new cards.

Haaai! Wedding Peach (wai! Just got a CD on Wednesday!) and St. Tail

I've never seen Creamy Mami, though. Sigh. On second thought, I think

As far as mahou shoujo goes, I also love Hime-chan no Ribon, CardCaptor
Sakura (kawaii!), Rayearth, and Sailormoon, of course. ^_- I'm
currently trying to get any Akazukin Cha Cha and Mahou no Stage Fancy
LaLa I can get may hands on (anyone want to trade? ^_^).

Might I remind all of you that Wedding Peach, although a fighting mahou shoujo, uses
the traditional method of having around 12 eps to get started. Once I've actually
seen the rest--might be at my college dorm when I return, might not--I'll tell you
my honest opinion. But, you know what? I can't wait to see the pure tenshi Salvia
and Momoko's mother.

Oh, it is good. In fact, the magical-item show is also in Pastel Yumi which *will*
be waiting for me when I get back to college. Excpet in Yumi, it's a magic
paintbrush that she uses to paint pictures, which then come to life. Unlike so many
others, Yumi does *not* transform.

Ya know, that sounds *exactly* like Creamy Mami. Yuu, an active blue haired girl,
turns into Mami, an older purple-haired girl. In fact, it was decided that she'd be
a great idol by the second episode. (However, being an idol isn't exactly her
dream.) I've only seen four episodes, but it's good so far. Another idol mahou
shoujo show is Magical Stage Emi.
And, you know, monster mahou shoujo didn't come about until the advent of the great
bishoujo senshi.

It's sort of a CM revival -- the same premises but with new characters.

Sounds like someone has visited KASHA!!! Well, maybe not if you were
watching fansubs! I like Wedding Peach although I haven't really been
able to sit down and watch it as a series. I've seen some episodes at
the KASHA meetings but I skipped some meetings and missed some episodes
:( I think I would really get hooked if I religiously watched it
though. I have also seen St. Tail and I liked that one a lot! By far,
my favorite of this bunch is Mahou no Tenshi Creamy Mami. I have about
half of that series and I recommend it to anyone. I'm a really big
Akemi Takada fan and I also really like old-school 70's/80's stuff so...
anyway, I'm glad to hear that you like Creamy Mami like I do!

I think that he has really good reasons. I can't say that I feel
EXACTLY the same way that he does because I do like to get fansubs
(although I do feel bad about it...). And watching something unsubbed
isn't all that hard either, especially if you've got an episode guide
handy. I'm amazed at how tuned-in my ear has become to Japanese since
I've started watching anime that way...

I think the first four episodes were subbed by some norweigan guys whose
script and use of English left something to be desired. I suggest
getting some raw eps from KASHA and read the script that Dave fixed-up
or find some episode guides like I did. That show is so cool! Pam pulu

Yeah, KASHA's great. Unfortunately, living all the way over in PA/MD has made
it virtually impossible to go to the meetings, grrr. However, I did get
Pastel Yumi from Dave. Can I say--he's *fast*.
And I LOVE Yumi's voice! Anybody know what kind of accent she has? It's so
elegant and rich and all around beautiful.

I don't feel bad about getting fansubs at all, but do get a lot of
unsubbed anime. It's sort of a necessity for those series that only
have a few subbed eps or none subbed at all. I completely agree about
recognizing more Japanese. It sort of forces you to understand more.
Episode guides can be a life saver, but they're not always necessary
(I'm still chotto confused about the end of St. Tail, though ^^;;).
Plus there's the fact that most series don't have episode guides, so
you sort of have to get by on your own. I don't really have a clue
about what's going on in Gokinjo Monogatari (the fact that my eps are
out of order doesn't help), but I still enjoy watching it (Mikako wa
kawaii da yo!).
Tonikaku, I guess I'd say to anyone afraid of getting unsubbed eps to
give it a try. You'll be surprised how much you'll understand, and how
much Japanese it forces you to learn. :)

Help! I'm listening to Macross 7! Seriously, I just got a new
(well, another, it's not all that new really) CD, and it has a
bunch of pretty good theme songs on it. Just Communication seems
pretty good (right now, but I have this feeling it'll grow on me).
Yes, I went to 222 Spadina yesterday. For that matter, I have to

Chris Schack
(El-Hazard TV OP is on now...
Ah, kimi wo hikari no tsubasa de dakishimeteitai...)
Yes, I must say the animation for shows nowadays are great. I
mean, compare the two latest mahou shoujo shows(Card Captor Sakura and
Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala) to any previous magical girl show. There just
is no comparison in terms of animation and art quality. In a way, it's a
little disorienting to see these type of shows have such high quality.
Sakura is kawaii(though I prefer the manga over the anime), but I
don't find Kero-chan's "column" very amusing. Everyone in our anime club
just has a blank stare as Kero-chan does his fashion show, not to mention
it feels choppy(not in animation, just the way the omake is set up).
But all that being said, it is pretty much a monster of the day
show(unless it changes later on). The unique part is Sakura using powers
of cards to capture other cards.
> Well, I've actually SEEN some of "Chou ..." but none of CCS, so I can
> say for sure that Iwant to see MORE of the one, whereas the other, I

True, but the animation and art of Chou is horrible... or simple
at best. I personally hated Chou after two eps and it's not the "give it
a chance" kind of hate. It's the "If I ever see that show again, I'll
break your VCR" kind of hate...
Then again, I'm not really into the anime CCS. It was a little
disappointing if you ask me. It's not bad, but I don't see what all the
fuss is either.
> Of course, I also have to get St. Tail...
Ah, but Card Captor Sakura and Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala are newer
=). Give then choice of a new show and an old one, I'd pick the newer if
you can find them. Besides, watching newer anime will give subbers more
time to sub more St. Tail.

Just because the anime art isn't that perfect, doesn't mean it's not good.
What about Pastel Yumi?

Do you like the manga? Where does it run? I tend to think of the anime as
shonen, is that true for the manga as well?

I prefer old anime. There's just something about the joys of the past.
Besides, I really don't like how everybody's rushing out to sub the latest
hot thing. I will happily watch my old--though new to me--raw tapes, yes I
will!

Hee hee...of course you like an anime where people yell "YOUR FATHER'S A PORN
WRITER" so... ^_^
Whoops, shoulda clarified. No, I hate Chou Kuseni Narisou and the bad
animation/art is just adding to it. I know 2 eps is really bad to
judge(as I disliked SMJ for the first fourth of of the series, yet
consider it one of the best of all time right now...), but it had nothing
of interest. I didn't find it funny. There was no plot. The romance
scenes were cheesy at best. And all I could think about when my club
showed it was "If they wanted a drama show, why didn't they just show
Marmalade Boy?!?" Besides, Kodomo no Omocha no Sana-chan can beat the
crap outta that Nagisa chick(who's songs are horrible as well...)
So it's not that I have anything against bad animation(heck, SM
doesn't have great animation most of the time). It's just that I disliked
it so much already...

I bought the first tankoubun. It ran in Kondansha if I'm not
mistaken. I think the art is cuter, and it seems to have more content
than the anime which is a little slow-paced in the beginning. I don't
think the manga is shounen as it's even more sugary-cute than the anime.
The anime shounen? Hmm... after seeing Kero-chan's omake, I tend to
disagree.
But when I go home, i'll buy the next tankoubun(the first one
comes with a bookmark, I hope it's like that with the rest :P)
> I prefer old anime. There's just something about the joys of the past.
No offense against old anime, but I just prefer watching newer
stuff that most haven't seen yet. That way when people say, "Hey, have
you ever heard of Wedding Peach? I'm watching it right now and I think
it's great." Then I can say: "yep, saw it. But have you heard of Mahou
no Stage Fancy Lala?" *blank stare from friend* "I'm watching it right
now and I think it's great."

If I had access to raw CCS or MnSFLala, or even of older stuff, I'd be
happy to watch them.

but actually, Clow Cards should be of the powers it represents, right?
But it has the back of a Clow Card and the front is a pic of Sakura. But
anyway, cool. Glad to know all the other manga has it too. Good
incentive to get more. RERIIZU!!

Ah, but if the anime is old enough, you can also get the same reaction. I'd
venture to say that Fancy Lala will probably get more recognition, than, say
Majoko Megu-Chan.
Wedding Peach? That's new. Stuff from the eighties at the *latest* is what I
consider old. All SP mahou shoujo series, save one, are old. And I bet you can
guess what that one is!

I got my raw Pastel Yumi eps from KASHA. He's *fast*.
Each manga has a theme, so the Clow Cards match the front and back
pictures. Dakara, the second tankoubon has Tomoyo, the third Syaoran,
the fourth Touya, etc. :)

who still needs to find tankoubon 1. ;_;
i'm thinking of stopping by japantown tomorrow.
if so, do you want me to pick it up for you? It costs about $5 and I
could ship it to you any way you want. and if there's anything else you
want(CDs or manga), I could pick 'em up for you as well.
