Does "Mii" mean "Tiger" in Japanese?
In "Galaxy Express 999", there is a tiger-striped cat named "Mii-kun".
My Japanese pen-pal has a tiger-striped cat named "Mii-ko".

So, does "Mii" mean "Tiger"? Please help me! (I wanna name my new cat
"Mii-chan", but if it doesn't mean tiger, I'm not going to name it that. I'll
just name it Rum Tum Tugger [been watching too much "CATS"].)

Tiger is "Tora" in Japanese Kanji. "Mi" (sans extra "i") can be an adjective
for Beautiful. But so far, I don't know what "Mii" (with second i) means.

hmm unless the name is written in kanji i can't say but:

Tora = tiger in japanese

and variations on the word:

toradoshi - year of the Tiger
toragari - tiger hunt
torafu - tiger stripes
toraneko = tiger type cat ; tabby cat

I was only able to find a translation of "Mii" as a Japanese name. There
appears to be no word in Japanese for "Mii."

It can also be used for sounds though... IIRC that little critter
in MKR that Hikaru befriends (and later names Hikari) keeps saying "Mii"
...I wonder if the name Mii-ko has something to do with the sound the kitty
was making. Traditionally that would be "nyan" and kitties are generally
nick named nyan-chan but that wouldn't be a proper name for a cat (normally)
so maybe she was named after the unusually high meow-ing sound she was
making... just an idea...
