Newsgroups have two functions:

1. they help organise conversations.

2. They represents groups of people who get to know each other over
time.

Even the comp.java.advocacy and comp.java.help groups had discussions
about the war for while, because of (2). This is an emergency. Don't
be like the soldier who refused to shoot a Coke machine to get a dime
for the phone to recall the nuclear bombers in Dr. Strangelove.
