And yet leftards are trying to portray it as a constitutional right.
I personally believe that the government has no business recognizing
personal relationships. Marriage "equality" means getting the government
out of the marriage business completely, and letting religious and
secular markets determine what "marriage" is.
Leftarded gays shot themselves in the foot when they decided to protest
Proposition 8 by insulting the polygamous faction of Mormons. Actually,
it was the ANTI-polygamous LDS faction that supported Proposition 8,
because it feared that legalization of same-sex marriage would set a
precedent for legalization of polygamy. The "mainstream" LDS faction's
moral superiority over the FLDS stems from the fact that polygamy is
illegal, keeping the polygamous FLDS on the fringes of Utah society.
If polygamy were legalized, the moral superiority of the LDS would
evaporate, leading to a theological battle where the "heretical" FLDS
would try to reclaim its title as the true heir of Joseph Smith and his
teachings. Blah blah blah, but now you see why the "mainstream" Mormon
church is so hellbent on opposing same-sex marriage.
The simple solution is to ban government recognition of ALL types of
marriage. Consenting adults of any gender and number should be allowed
to form relationships of their choosing and describe them with whatever
words they want, but it is none of the government's business.
"Marriage" is a generic term, but churches could trademark terms for
their version of marriage, such as "Catholic Married" (no divorce
permitted), "Episcopalian Married" (divorce only permitted after wife's
head is cut off), or "United Church of Christ Married" (divorce mandated
after spouse renounces Barack Obama as his/her personal savior).
